Chapter 21 - Thugs, Cops and Talks
Summary:
Kim Jaejoong owns a construction company and that forces him to do business with the mafia even if he himself tries to remain within the law. However, some of the mafia men don’t appreciate that and keep threatening him. That’s why he hired Changmin, Junsu and Yoochun who are responsible for his security.
Jung Yunho is a cop specialized in domestic violence and sex crimes. During the chase of a sex offender he found himself thrown in a bigger investigation involving a paedophile/mafia man named Kim Jaejoong. As if that wasn’t enough he’s being framed for the murder of the sex offender and the mafia is blackmailing him with the evidence on his innocence to do one job for them: kill Jaejoong. Why? Because even the mafia wants him to bring down Kim Jaejoong.
And so their paths collided.
Warnings: mention rape and abuse, some violence, smut.
Pairings: Yunjae, little hints of Yoosu

Chapter 21 - Thugs, Cops and Talks
Changmin arrived at the company around eleven in the morning. He studied the cars and the faces. Nothing out of the ordinary. He found Jaejoong’s assistant, Lee Jun Ki, already hard at work with a mountain of paperwork.
-Morning.
-Ah, Changmin. Good morning.
-Jaejoong will not be coming to the office today. He asked me to check on things.
-He talked with TOP, didn’t he?
-Yes.
-Well, whatever Mr. Kim told TOP, it worked. The suppliers started sending new quotations all morning. The materials are back at normal price. I also received confirmation of returns for the substandard materials we had received. I think tomorrow we will be ready to resume construction. I am, however, very tempted to invoice TOP for the delay.
-Do it. Make sure it’s a high amount too. There was another attempt against Jaejoong.
-What? Is he ok?
-Yes. Don’t worry. But it will be good to double check everything. And Jae doesn’t want you going around on your own.
-I don’t need a bodyguard, Changmin.
A ring interrupted them. It was a call from reception. Jun Ki answered the phone.
-Let them in.
The assistant looked at the tall bodyguard with a thoughtful gaze.
-There are cops coming up. Anything I need to know? Or can I just assume that they are once again thinking we work for the mafia?
-It was an interesting weekend but I don’t think the cops are here because of any of that.
Two cops in regular clothes walked in, a younger one smiling in a suit and the other one in a stylish blazer and a closed off expression. Jun Ki looked at them with a curious look, these guys didn’t seem like the usual cops who always wanted to check the books. He wondered if, like other cops before them, they also assumed that they were entering a mafia lair.
-Good morning. My name is Jung Il Woo and this is my partner Kim Soo Hyun. Is Mr. Kim Jaejoong in?
-Good morning. I’m Mr. Kim’s assistant, Lee Jun Ki. My boss will not come to the office today but I can answer whatever questions you may have.
-And you are?
-Morning. Shim Changmin, chief of security. What can we help you with?
-We need to check the paperwork for a demolition job your company did last Thursday.
-Demolition? You must be mistaken. We had no demolition job scheduled for last week. All our workers are tied up with the construction of a mall and another building downtown.
-In that case, Mr. Lee, perhaps you will be interested in helping me find out why and how is your company’s name related to this.
The cop handed him copies of the Town Hall authorization paperwork. The assistant checked the papers and silently passed them to the bodyguard, who showed his surprise.
-Mr. Shim, why so surprised?
-Look, here, Mr. Jung Il Woo. I don’t like your tone of voice. If Mr. Lee says we had no demolition job, then we had no demolition job. Go ahead and look over all the paperwork and talk to all our workers. The only thing connecting our company to this piece of paper is our name on it which to me, means nothing. Who says this isn’t some forgery so you can harass us?. And why does it matter who demolished this thing?
The other cop turned a friendly face at the composed assistant and offered an explanation.
-This building was the site for a police chase on Wednesday, making it a crime scene. To have it demolished the day after is highly suspicious, don’t you agree, Mr. Lee?
-Mr. Kim Soo Hyun, I want nothing more than to help you but our company really has nothing to do with this. Please, feel free to check and let us know if you find anything relevant. I would also like very much to find out what our company’s name is doing on that piece of paper.
…
Yoochun and four other guards were returning from the dead man’s house where they had found nothing of interest. He picked his phone to call Changmin.
-Hey, Min. The dead guy was a dead end. Pun intended.
-No connections?
-Nothing. Just a thug for hire to the highest bidder. He worked for mafia, debt collectors, and even cheated husbands. There isn’t any name that stands out. His phone had no leads as well. As for the neighbours, they are all blind, deaf and mute.
-Shit!
-Yeah, tell me about it. So, brighten up my day. Any luck asking Jun Ki out? Are you two done pretending you don’t check each other out?
-Knock that off. We have another problem.
-Another? Don’t we have enough already? We still have a corpse to dispose of.
-The company is being framed.
-What? How?
-We just had cops in the office going over all the paperwork and I’m sure there were other cops talking with our workers in the meantime. Remember that building where we found Ren? It was demolished after some sex offender got finished there by a cop. For some reason it’s our company’s name on the Town Hall demolition authorization papers. I can’t even tell you the face I did when I recognised the damn address. I thought I would never have to hear about that building ever again in my life.
-Are you looking into it? Should we call Jae?
-Not yet. Jae will have a fit when he hears about this. I’m going to wait until Jun Ki and I can check this mess. We are heading to Town Hall to go over this. A demolition has a lot of bureaucracy involved. We’re hoping there will be a paper trail to follow. Where are you going now?
-To check the guy that matched Yunho’s description of who hired him. It was quite something finding him on an old surveillance tape of a previous attempt on Jae’s life.
-I’m still pissed off. When we checked him at the time, he seemed totally unrelated. There was nothing to say he could be after Jae.
-I’m even more worried because that was one of the attempts we managed to keep hidden from Jae and worse, one of the attempts that seemed unrelated with the mafia.
-Don’t remind me. This keeps getting complicated. Are you ok to check the rest on your own until I can meet with you?
-Yeah. I’m cool. Keep me posted. I’ll call you if I have more information. Later.
-Bye.
…
Later in the afternoon Yoochun is in a very bad mood. The old man’s neighbour, Park Jung Min, is still nowhere to be seen and seems to be just a simple landlord. However there is no evidence that the apartment where they found the old man was rented, all the bills were still under the landlord’s name. The guy he had sent to check the hospitals still hadn’t struck any luck yet. Changmin had called saying the paper trail was legit, they had even found an invoice hiring another company to do the demolition and they had paid that invoice. Yoochun really wanted to punch something or someone at this point. He kept a tight watch on his prey, determined that this one would not get away.
Soon Changmin arrived as well. He joined Yoochun, ignoring the other three guards who were scattered at different tables.
-He still hasn’t moved?
-No. He’s still attached to the gambling table. Hey, how did that invoice pass under Jun Ki’s nose? Isn’t he petty with the accounting? Even Jae sometimes complains.
-I left when he was about to tear the accountant responsible to pieces. Seems the guy booked it as something else.
-That is suspicious. Isn’t it too convenient?
-Don’t worry. Jun Ki will get the full story soon. Have you talked to Jae or Su? I got some calls but I didn’t answer them. Telling any of this to Jaejoong over the phone is not a good idea.
-No. I haven’t answered as well. After our last call I turned the sound off. It’s ok, they know we never answer calls when on surveillance. Let’s just make sure we catch this guy. If someone like this guy ever broke into the house I would kill any guard that didn’t shoot him on sight. That man is very dangerous. We’ll need to be very careful.
-This is crazy. Park Ri Ho never hired anyone like him before. And why send Yunho? The more I look at Yunho the less threatening he looks.
-Hard to find him threatening with that limp.
Changmin shook his head and laughed at his friend’s antics and both continued their attentive watch.
…
Yunho woke up with a headache. He had slept too much. His father was happily watching some drama and laughing with Donghae. When he looked around the room, Eric was quietly keeping an eye on him. He checked the time, it was getting late and no one had returned yet. “Ah, why do I care? It’s better for me that they stay out as long as possible. The longer they stay out the higher chances they are finding nothing about me, but I do wish they could catch who is after Jaejoong. Besides I am curious as to what Jaejoong will have to say about Taemin. What could possibly have happened to that boy?”
…
The first one to return home was Jaejoong, only one bodyguard following him inside and then hurriedly moving out of sight. The business man was pissed. He walked in banging doors and cursing loudly. Yunho looked up at the beautiful man with a weary face. His father was open mouthed and even more at the guard’s reactions; even Eric was slowly retreating to get out of Jaejoong’s way. Everyone remained in silence until Jaejoong finally collapsed on one of the sofas with a frustrated scream. The angry man looked around.
-Where is everyone?
Eric moved a little forward.
-They haven’t returned yet, Sir.
-Did they call?
-No.
-Fuck! What are they doing? I can’t get anyone to answer the damn phone.
Jaejoong got quiet; he just stared at the tv, letting out little irritated puffs from time to time.
Everyone thought best to ignore Jaejoong and let him be. Yunho was trying to do that too, but found himself stealing glances at the shorter man. At every puff or louder breath he would look at the man. After a while, Yunho realised he was actually stealing glances at the man’s lips. They were rosy, very full, wet from being constantly nibbled, and had a permanent pout. Admitting defeat, the cop allowed his eyes to travel freely. When he realised that he was trying to find the man’s bulge, he hid his head in his hands and refused to look up again. Which meant he failed to notice the intrigued look on his father’s face.
…
Yoochun and Changmin followed their prey from club to club. The guy was a heavy drinker and a mean customer who groped the waiters, male or female. Several times they saw him talking with men they knew worked for different mafia bosses or just petty criminals. Already at night time, the guy seemed to settle for the club belonging to Park Ri Ho. But he contacted no one in that club, just drank and harassed the waiters.
…
Junsu arrived with the other guard from that morning and joined Jaejoong on the sofa. He looked exhausted. Jaejoong sits up and looks at Junsu who just shakes his head silently.
The two men get up and go talk elsewhere leaving behind the guards and the two prisoners. Yunho and his father exchange puzzled glances.
Inside the library, Jaejoong turns on his bodyguard the second he hears the door close.
-Su, what do I do?
-Jae, stop that.
-But Taemin is missing. For more than a week already. Stupid director. How can he have a twelve year old kid missing and not be more worried? Ren was only missing for a day and look what happened to him. God, this is all my fault.
-It’s not your fault. You didn’t do anything.
-I didn’t protect Ren! And I couldn’t catch that bastard. And now he probably has Taemin.
-We don’t know that. Calm down. We’ll find Taemin. And we’ll catch that bastard. I promise you. We have him under close watch. As soon as he makes a false move, we’ll have him.
-Then how come he caught Taemin?
Jaejoong huffs and turns his back on Junsu. The bodyguard silently watches and lets him be. He knows his boss is too preoccupied at the moment to listen to reason.
…
The four men sit to a silent dinner. At the end of the meal, Jaejoong gets up with a curse and pushes the old man chair to the back. Yunho gets up to follow but stops with a look in Junsu’s direction. The other man shrugs his shoulders and pays him no more attention. Looking around, the cop realises he sees no guards except Donghae sitting on the sofa and watching tv. Taking the opportunity and the silent permission, Yunho goes in the direction where Jaejoong took his father.
Yunho realises it’s a bedroom equipped with a hospital bed. Inside the bathroom, he can hear Jaejoong’s voice. He silently approaches the open door.
The business man is talking and talking while the older man just listens with a worried look.
-It was my fault. I don’t care what Su says. If it wasn’t for me, Ren would never have suffered so much. Isn’t it just twisted that I had to be thankful that he had amnesia when he woke up from the coma and remembers nothing of what was done to him? God, he’s still just a teen and he was even younger then. You would love him to bits, Mr. Thumper. He is always smiling and telling jokes and goofing around. I don’t know how I am going to tell him that Taemin is missing. I’m sure Ren expected me to keep an eye on his friend, yet I didn’t. I was too worried about my own problems. God, I did thought he was safe in the orphanage, always surrounded by people. How could they have a boy missing and do nothing? The director said the cops are investigating. Ah! As if. I watch the news on tv, there was no mention of a missing boy. I’m going to kill that animal. Lord, what do I do?
-Calm down. It will be ok. You are too nervous.
-Nervous? No. I’m shaking with anger. I just want to punch the entire world because things like this should not happen.
…
Junsu followed Yunho into Jaejoong’s old father’s room and stood at the entrance door, watching the taller man listening in on the conversation. He coughed and with a finger signalled the chained man to follow him.
In the corridor, Junsu threw the taller man against a wall with a menacing look. He stood with his hands on his hips while the other man tried not to glare back.
-Talk. What is the deal with you?
-What do you mean?
-Why did you came into this house Friday night?
-I told already. I was hired to scare your boss. Rough him up a bit.
Junsu approached and with a mean grip, cupped Yunho’s genitals through the sweat pants and twisted hard.
-Stop! - Yunho whined in pain.
The tall man pushed the shorter one to free himself. Junsu let go slowly and stepped back.
-Then why did we practically found you with your pants down?
Yunho bit his lips and looked away. With a sigh, he decided a little truth was probably the best way.
-Jaejoong is… I-I got… I didn’t mean to… - He stammered and paused.
-You think he’s a fine piece of ass and you got the hots for him. Got that. A question of opportunity then?
-Look here. I’m not some sick rapist! I just… I got carried away. And…
-Why don’t you say who hired you?
-I don’t know who hired me!
-Who are you?
-My name is Yunho. That is all I’m going to say about that.
-Why? Because of your father?
-Who? - Yunho couldn’t help a second of fear showing on his face.
-Give it a rest. Jaejoong and I only needed to look at you two in the same room to see the resemblance. Explains why you took whatever Jae did to you the other day in exchange for a phone call. - Junsu smirked with a lift of his eyebrows that made Yunho think of Yoochun.
-Look, for the moment, as you can tell, your father is perfectly safe and well taken cared for. Much better than he was back at the apartment where you left him alone. You better pray Jae doesn’t think of that little detail or you may find yourself limping again. And not in a good way. I wasn’t here when Jae’s father used that wheel chair, and slept in that room, but I can promise you that he will not take kindly to you leaving an old man, with a broken leg, all alone while you went to… rough somebody up.
-It was never my intention to leave him alone. I was forced to… - Yunho shut up when he realised he had talked too much.
-Forced? Interesting choice of words. Care to share that story?
Yunho looked away and refused to meet Junsu’s eyes.
-What about last night? Why get in between Jae and a guy with a gun?
-What was I supposed to do? Just watch? - He asked with an angry growl.
-Humm… - Junsu studied Yunho’s face with a thoughtful look. -Let me tell you what is going to happen now. You will, maybe, be given some freedom. Considering you did save his life and whatever else it is you and Jae have going on. Use it wisely. During this second attack, Jae may not have called for us, like he did before, but he still doesn’t trust you. None of us do. You take one step we don’t like, you will have me, Minnie and Chunnie tearing you apart. Got that?
Suddenly Jaejoong walked up to them.
-What are you doing?
-Taking our Guest-Number-One back to his quarters.
-Let Donghae take him instead. I don’t think I pay him to just watch tv. - Jaejoong went to the end of the corridor and yelled at the guard. -Donghae, get here, you lazy ass.
Turning back to Junsu, while Donghae escorted Yunho, the business man asked about Yoochun and Changmin’s whereabouts.
-I don’t know. I tried calling as well but they haven’t answered yet. Annoys the hell out of me but those two insist on doing that every time they are doing a surveillance job. They must be checking the guy who talked with Yunho.
It was actually easy to find a match based on the description he gave us. I think there may be a possibility this thug didn’t simply hire Yunho and more likely threatened him. Our honorary guest seems to care about his father, so I don’t think he would leave him alone like that.
Oh, I sent Eric to check Chun and Min’s GPS location just in case. I’ll go stay at the control room while I wait to hear back from Eric.
Now, why don’t you go and try to rest, Jae?
…
Yunho slowly walks along the corridor. He can’t remember which door is the room where he was kept before. Then he feels a change behind him and a perfume assaults his nose. “Jae.” He realises Donghae is gone. Since no different order comes, he just keeps walking and stops facing an open door. It’s the room where he stayed. The business man walks past him but stops one step away, his back to the taller man. Then Yunho sees that Jaejoong’s hand reaches behind and with a finger grabs the chain on his wrist cuff. His breath stops. Jaejoong takes another step and the chain gets tensed between the two men. However there is no pull. Jaejoong just keeps his back to the front, the finger on the chain. Yunho realises he can pull the chain and simply go inside this room. Or he can allow Jaejoong to lead him into his own room. His heart rate increases and his breathing is loud. The sorter man takes another step and the cop lifts his hands to allow the chain to stretch between them. His cock perks in interest. He knows he’s being asked permission and something tells him this is the only permission he will be asked if he follows Jaejoong. Not when the business man is so obviously angry and irritated. That thought makes his cock twitch again.
Jaejoong releases the air he was holding and starts to let his light hold of the chain go with reluctance. That’s when he hears a step in his direction. He keeps his eyes facing forward but it’s with a smug smile that he walks to his own room; finger still holding the chain; the other man silently following him. He’s suddenly feeling rather satisfied.
…
Yoochun was tired. He stretched his body and grabbed his phone to send a text to Junsu. There were several missed calls from Jaejoong, Junsu and even Eric. “Well, I guess I can put aside my policy of not communicating when on surveillance. Just for my sexy Su. I don’t want him making me sleep on the couch if I let him worry too much.” Just as Yoochun was beginning to type, Changmin nudged his elbow. A sudden movement from the guy’s table had caught the younger man’s attention. The big guy, one girl in each arm, was preparing to leave the club.
Yoochun pocketed his phone, sms forgotten.
The two bodyguards and their men followed the suspicious man through the streets at a safe distance, coordinating trough their ear piece radios. When the man entered a love motel, they spread the guards to cover the exits and went in.
