This picture was taken under the Grande Arche at La Defense in Paris and looks down the promenade. At the very end you can see the Arc de Triomphe silhouetted against the sky. If it was a clear day, you would have also been able to see the Obelisque in the Place de la Concorde. The Grande Arche is the very end of the giant Axe Historique of Paris that begins from the Louvre.

La Defense is one of the more interesting public spaces I have visited, we would often go when I was living in Paris as a day out. All the giant modernist office blocks and the well furnished central promenade makes it feel like you are walking through a giant modernist sculpture garden.

And when you reach the end of the promenade to the triumphant building of the Grande Arche you look out the other side to the surroundings of Paris. Paris intra-muros is one of those cities that has definite borders, and this is one of them.

Posing for me is one of my oldest friends and the huge umbrella she had while in Paris. I frequently made her pose with that umbrella.
