Carson frowned when John came into the infirmary, holding his right shoulder with his left hand. "Colonel?" he asked, picking up his tablet PC and hurrying over.

"Hi," John said with a wince. "Got time to look at my arm?"

"What did you do?" Carson asked, steering John toward a bed, helping him remove his shirt without causing too much pain. John's arm wasn't bruised, but John hissed when Carson prodded it.

John mumbled something, ducking his head. Carson leaned down to make eye contact. "John?" he asked leadingly.

"I think I hurt it moving the crate last night," John said with a blush that spread down his cheeks and neck to his chest. It was a distracting sight, but Carson forced himself to focus on John's words.

"You hurt yourself moving the crate? And you didn't tell me?"

John did look up then. "You were already hurt," he said with a shrug, then promptly winced.

Carson shook his head. "What is in that crate?" he asked, gently probing at the shoulder again. When John muttered an answer Carson couldn't hear, he sighed. "Don't make me sic Rodney on you."

"Books."

"Books?" Carson asked with a raised eyebrow.

John nodded. "I bought some books the last time I was on Earth. Hardback."

"More than just some, I think," Carson said, inwardly smiling at John's inner geek. "Well, it doesn't feel like you've torn anything, but I'm going to send you for a scan just in case. I'm also taking you off duty for at least a week to let that shoulder rest up." Carson wrote on John's chart on the tablet PC. "Presuming nothing is torn, I'm prescribing ibuprofen as needed, along with rest, ice," he looked up at John, "I'm sure you know the drill by now."

John nodded. "Rest, ice, compression, elevation."

Carson smiled. "Well, I'm not sure we'll need the compression here. But," he said, taking a quick glance around, making sure no one else was in the infirmary, before pressing a light kiss to John's injured shoulder, "that should help."

John smiled at him, obviously recalling their conversation from the previous night. "It always does," he said, "but I'll still want cuddling later."

Carson grinned and pressed another soft kiss to John's shoulder. "Always, love."
