Summary: Post-"Phantom" drabble
The tears only come in his sleep. In the darkest part of the night, when his walls finally collapse, he cries for the man he could not save. The man who has haunted his dreams ever since that terrifying day on another planet. His best wasn't good enough, not to do what he'd gone for and save the man. It was enough to make him reconsider his profession, though in the end, he'd stayed.
Carson is stronger than anyone truly knew.
And if, sometimes, John wakes up to find tears on his own face, remembering his struggle to save Captain Holland, Carson is strong enough to hold him until the nightmares fade away.
