Met up with WW yesterday for a Steve Earle gig. He was touring with his album of Townes Van Zandt songs, in tribute to his old inspiration and mentor. He was playing a solo acoustic set, with TVZ songs interspersed with his own back catalogue and his commentary on the music. Last week, inkognitoh texted to say she'd be on the Trafalgar Square fourth plinth on thursday evening as part of Antony Gormley's One & Other art installation. So I stopped off on my way to the pub quiz to see her. It was really cool, I thought. On Thursday, I went with inkognitoh, silverjet_allie and Pete to the Barbican's Twisted Christmas show, which featured a lot of cool music, along with shadow puppetry, a culinary shaggy dog story, and Heston Blumenthal recreating the smell of christmas onstage. Met up with Pete and silverjet_allie on Friday. We had a drink and a bite to eat at Monkey Chews. Rubbish name, but a good pub. Had a Seven Samurai poster on the wall, served good food and played good music. We were in Camden for Ash's 1977 show - they were at the Roundhouse playing the whole of the album. Went to a really cool gig on Monday. Along with inkognitoh, silverjet_allie, minx2012 and Pete. Sea songs and chanteys aplenty, me buckoes, gar! There were a few eccentric performances, but overall it was awesome. Eliza Carthy and her parents were really cool, representing the "proper folk" contingent. As was Julie Fowlis singing in Gaelic.
