I left the house early this morning to meet a work friend for a bird watching walk at a park (Whittier Peninsula) along the Scioto River. My friend, an avid (crazy) birder, led me and about half a dozen other birder watchers on the walk. rfunk and I had a really nice time on our weekend vacation to the Hocking Hills region of Ohio. I took Friday off from work. We took our time getting up and packed, and arrived at our cabin about 4pm Friday evening. The cabin we stayed at is called The Bunkhouse. Friday afternoon, just before I left work for the day, a friend at work stopped by my cubicle asking if she could borrow my hard hat. Turns out she and her husband were going caving with another couple on Saturday. The Persied meteor shower peaks this sunday night. The shower peaks in the hours before dawn Monday morning. As luck would have it, there is a new moon that night, making for ideal viewing conditions.

The electricity was out at my house when I got home last night after meditation class. There was just enough daylight left for me to do the few outside chores I needed to do, and then light candles inside. I ate a snack and read by candlelight before bed. I stayed home again today, and I'm making sure I get lots of rest. I really want to go to work tomorrow though. The house is starting to feel confining.

The Canada geese have returned, slowly making their way south for the winter.

I'm starting to find more spiders indoors now. This morning there was one in the sink. But the major infestation of wolf spiders isn't due for another month.

The birds have returned. Canada geese down by the river, stopping off here on their way up north. Songbirds and starlings in my yard. Redwing blackbird staking out a territory on the fencepost down the lane.

Daffodils are coming up in my garden.

The light stays later and later each day.
