Jack, Julia and I went to the city today to see my Ob/Gyn.  He did another ultrasound, measured the baby to see how it was growing and thoroughly checked out the heart.  We saw the four chambers, the various valves and arteries and a perfect cane-shaped aorta.  The baby was head down and posterior so the doctor had a good view of everything he ( Read more... )

I often sit here at the computer in the late evening, after the girls are gone to bed and Jack is engrossed in late night sports tv.    I look at Abby's pictures, I read old journal entries and I remember all the emotions surrounding Abby's birth and death.    I looked at the picture of Abby wired up and ready for NICU transport and thought about ( Read more... )

We're home from a full day in the city, including our first ultrasound.  One tiny baby, heart beating at 163 bpm, and a very adult, professional discussion with our doctor.  He was anxious about our choice to even consider another homebirth but as always, respected our decision when he realized we weren't going to be stubborn or stupid about it.  ( Read more... )

As I was driving to the city yesterday with Kim and Julia,  I started thinking again about car seat placement once this baby comes.  With only two seats in the middle row of our van, we had decided to put Abby in the middle row and Julia (in her car seat/booster seat) in the way back.  Having two car seats in the middle row would've made getting in ( Read more... )
