Julia has strep throat. We sat in a crowded medi-clinic for more than an hour only to get a prescription that we couldn't get filled. After many attempted phone calls to the clinic and several chats with the pharmacist we took the original prescription to a compound pharmacy downtown to get it filled. Today we removed the conditions on the offer to purchase our new home and although I was relieved to know that our purchase was now official, my heart broke a little too.  This was our first home, we welcomed three new babies here, I gave birth here twice, I've spent 13 of our 21 years of my marriage here, we've seen Kim grow from a gap-toothed 7 ( Read more... )

I feel a bit scattered today, trying to get back into my Toronto routine.  The flight here was fine, no more than the usual bumps of turbulence.  It's been raining lightly off and on today and everything is certainly wet but no crazy weather.  Anything wild happened on Monday and things have settled down here (so no worries, Mom!).

Today was our Fetal Health Surveillance course and exam aaallll day.  I had never done the course before and was worried about how tough it would be (the workbook is 350 pages!), and worried about passing the exam.  It was fine, the instructor was really kind and did a good job of going through the material, I wrote the two tests (80%) and now I'm ( Read more... )

I'm waiting for my roomie to arrive late from the airport - watching The Blind Side while randoming looking up things in my textbooks as they come to mind.  Four auscultatory areas of the newborn heart, thyroid exam, normal blood values, ESW.....

Abby's week is over - her birth on the 9th, death on the 10th, coming home on the 13th, funeral on the 15th.  I still remember how my future felt like an enormous black hole after everything was over.  But, I didn't fall into the black hole.  I finished my midwifery education, (mostly) successfully continued being a wife and mother, and gave birth ( Read more... )
