fun in the city

Jack, Julia and I went to the city today to see my Ob/Gyn.  He did another ultrasound, measured the baby to see how it was growing and thoroughly checked out the heart.  We saw the four chambers, the various valves and arteries and a perfect cane-shaped aorta.  The baby was head down and posterior so the doctor had a good view of everything he needed to see....

BRING ON THE PINK !!!!     !!  IT'S A GIRL  !!

We got a good view of her little labia and no penis in sight!  For just a moment I felt a little disappointed for Jack; most men look forward to having a son to carry on the name, and do all the guy stuff together.  Jack assures me he is not disappointed at all, but he's already planning on at least three bathrooms for our next home!  As we were leaving the office Julia told the receptionist that she was having a baby sister, and when the receptionist said something about it being a shame it wasn't a boy, Jack just shrugged his shoulders and pulled Julia's Polly Pockets out of his coat pocket.  He is resigned to a world of barbies, pink clothes, make-up and mood swings.  And honestly, he loves his girls sooo much.

By the time we got home Kim was home from school.  She came out of her room, looked at me and said, "Well?"  I told her it was a girl and she got a big grin on her face and giggled.  I'm sure she would have been happy no matter what the sex, as long as this baby stays with us.

Everything is going really well so far, the baby is growing and developing fine, the placenta is in a good position nowhere near the cervix, my blood pressure and weight are really good and all is well.  My Ob/Gyn was wise enough not to ask about our choice of birth place again but wished us well, shook Jack's hand and told us to to be sure to send a picture of the baby.

It's so wonderful to see this wee girl moving inside me.  I know she's alive and well, I can feel her move, but it's just so much more satisfying to *see* her move.  Even though I never saw Abby move after she was born, I have the video of her 20 week ultrasound and she was very active.  It seriously breaks my heart to watch it but I'm so thankful to have that visible reminder of her life before birth.

Now I'm even more anxious and excited to meet this little girl, fill her dresser and closet with girly clothes and buy *more* pink scrapbook paper ;-)  June just can't come soon enough.
