Wed evening I picked up two LBs. They are BEAUTIFUL. A shade of green I've never quite seen before (kinda bright lime and some olive tones, with hot-pink faces and sorta-cinnamon grey primaries -- I think they could possibly be some dilute mutation??) and huge. I picked DeeDee up from the shelter last night. She is a sweet-as-pie Umbrella cockatoo, approximately 20 years old and she could possibly be wild caught (she has an open band). Couldn't ask for a nicer bird, calm, talks a little, very sweet. The folks at the shelter kept saying "You can't take her!" They loved having her there! It sounds like her ( Read more... )

Sometimes doing rescue work is really great. You know you're doing a wonderful thing and the animals will eventually be so much happier and healthier because of it all. Bombshell... my sister is moving to Atlanta. They decided about a week or so ago and she and the whole family pick up and go Dec 26th. Whew. On the good side, this has kept my mom busy -- helping with their house (they hope to sell it at an upcoming open house) and taking care of the kids. Talked to my mother last night and she says that my dad is now awake, "talking" (he's trached again, so he mouths words) and whatnot. She sounded very down cause he was saying more "wacky" things and also was really needy. Back from a short trip to Canada before heading out to WNY again to take care of things with my parents. My dad is still in the ICU and has been getting a new antibiotic that's $10k for 3 days of doses. :/ With the number of infections he's had, they've had to bring out the big guns to deal with the latest -- he's immune to most every other ( Read more... )
