Wed evening I picked up two LBs. They are BEAUTIFUL. A shade of green I've never quite seen before (kinda bright lime and some olive tones, with hot-pink faces and sorta-cinnamon grey primaries -- I think they could possibly be some dilute mutation??) and huge. Supposedly they talk, but, I haven't heard any talking so far. They are quite afraid of people, but, I think they have potential. They are going to their long term foster home next week. The girl understands LBs and is missing her foster who just got adopted, so I think they will be happy there.
Picked up two new senegals today from a different shelter than usual. One seni seems quite sweet and stepped up for me a couple of times and even let me pet him, and the other is very shy and just seems like he wants to be left alone, so I complied. They whistle a little. They need names! They are both male and the nicer one has kinda brownish freckles or dapples on his head. The other one I haven't seen any distinguishing marks on yet. Both are male and pretty quiet and mellow. For some reason "coffee" as an idea was tumbling around in my head. Any coffee-themed suggestions for them? I was thinking maybe coffee drinks or even coffee 'styles' or 'regional' coffee names? Do you think it would confuse people if grey, green, red/orange and yellow birds had coffee names? Maybe they should be Bob Marley and Mikey Dread. Or Mighty and Diamonds. :/
The wonderful sweet cockatoo is probably getting adopted! I took her to her new home already -- even though she was a blast to have around (like having a puppy!) I just can't keep her, much as I'd like to. I haven't heard any updates other than that she's settling in, but, the adopter said she was going to work on her diet and hopefully get her to start eating things that are good for her! My only concern is that the adopter has several other large birds and it seems like this bird will want a lot of attention. However, it would be good for her to learn to play by herself sometimes and to not NEED to be with a person ALL the time. So, I'm hoping it will work out!
Blue LB isn't getting adopted after all. The home that seemed like it had so much potential isn't going to work for him. The adopter also has a cat, and while some cats and birds might get along okay, the one this girl has is VERY aggressive and predatory. Bad combo with a tiny little bird who thinks he can take on giants. So... he's still staying with me for now. Blue =! snack. :(
