I picked DeeDee up from the shelter last night. She is a sweet-as-pie Umbrella cockatoo, approximately 20 years old and she could possibly be wild caught (she has an open band). Couldn't ask for a nicer bird, calm, talks a little, very sweet. The folks at the shelter kept saying "You can't take her!" They loved having her there! It sounds like her owner was ill and wanted her to be placed before she was too far gone to take care of the situation herself. Very sad story!! Female U2s always seem to have this weird "I wanna be your mate" thing going on with me, so despite being totally charmed by her, I'm trying to find a lovely new home ASAP before she winds herself into a tizzy trying to woo me. ;) Going through our applicants to see where might be the right place for her. In the mean time, she's like having a little kid around. I'm trying to work with her sitting next to me and she keeps trying to sit in my lap. Luckily I found a toy that keeps her occupied so she will let me work. At least a little!!! ;)
In other bird news, it looks like we may have found a home for my little Blue lovebird!! Still working out the details, but it looks like a very strong possibility for him. Enough that I have my hopes up!
