She's gorgeous, she ginormous, she stinks!  It's Lois! The Houston Museum of Natural Science's corpse flower is blooming now and the museum is open extended hours (24 hours sometimes) for the event. Apparently, they get slightly listing drunk clubbers at 3am and then at 5am it rolls over into upright business people on their way to work ( Read more... )

This little guy fell onto my sleeve while we were having lunch on an outdoor patio.  After my initial shriek (there's something alive on me!) I retrieved him to a napkin and then put him back on the tree, from which point he booked it at an impressive pace up the trunk until he was way up into the leaves again when we left ( Read more... )

So yesterday I went to a luncheon for corporate and non-profit supporters of a local public radio station (the office lotto for tickets fell to me this time), and the result was that I got to hear a great speech, see a funny magic show, and meet Carl Kasell.  He is a lovely man.
