Blisteringly hot here. Very unusual, this sort of heat wave normally comes in July. Not quite June yet, over 100F/40 C over the last few days. It was cooler, or so I thought, this morning.  I did some gardening. Cleared and dug over  a 6 x 8 foot bed- weeds had overrun it and a Cotoneaster shrub went crazy and had spread everywhere. I really needed something to cheer me up today. My caseload sucks- low numbers = low paycheck. Got to hustle my butt to keep the moola coming in, so I can take the time off for surgery. I have un-employment sick leave- but it has a two week waiting period and pays not very much. Will call nursing home and see if they need some part-time nurses. Had ( Read more... )

Moans a little. My arms and legs are telling me what a lazy cow I have been. Planted 50 trees/shrubs and oh do I need to get in shape. Had to stop now as it's too hot out. What was I thinking? My arms and legs are throbbing after the huge workout I did today. In a two hour period, dug up 60 or so clumps of daylilies. Lifted clumps out and into wheelbarrow. Pushed barrow to trailer. Lifted each into trailer. Then lifted them out when I was driven home.
Each clump has 2-5 plants. Now these have to be planted in my full ( Read more... )

Saturday was not the best-migraine. But I did get the laundry done and tidied the kitchen. Today, I have put a coat of urethane on the kitchen cabinet doors, later I will put them back on the cupboards. Who knew that it would take almost four weeks for me to get this done? One of the joys of summer is the locally grown and home grown produce that suddenly becomes available.  I stopped by a farmers market just as it was shutting down and was able to buy twelve quarts of juicy strawberries for only $2 each. A steal as the regular cost is $3.50. I've hulled them and put them in the freezer to make jam and preserves ( Read more... )

A rather quiet weekend mostly due to the fact that work asked me if I could cover on Friday evening, "it's not busy only two visits" Bullcrap- I had ten visits and drove 200km- that's three hours. Today is the beginning of Canada's warm weather season, it runs until the second Monday in October.  We don't say May twenty-four or the twenty -fourth. It is May two-four.
