My mood has been poor this week. The worst it's been in a while. The constant rain isn't helping, but that didn't seem like it would be enough to drive me this low this fast. Then I remembered that this weekend is the anniversary of Gilly's death. And somehow knowing why I'm feeling this way makes it easier to deal with.

The crocuses are now covered in snow. A Nor’easter is dumping a few inches of slushy white stuff on our yard. I hear that folks further west are getting up to a foot. I’m happy to be getting the lesser amount.

Last night we had dervishspin over for dinner. It was awesome to see her and to have her and V connect. We’ll have to do the same with Elmer soon. ( Read more... )

This time of year is always awkward for me. The rapidly changing light and daylight savings jump leave me feeling unrooted in time, especially on gray, flat-lit days. My sleep and my internal sense of when are spun around and left to find their own lurching way back to their center. It leaves me feeling mentally wobbly and partially ungrounded. ( Read more... )

It was a pleasant change yesterday to hear the gutters gurgling after so much snow and ice. And yesterdays precipitation amounted to little more than some frozen slush. I'm a satisfied customer.

It has been a week of yak-shaving and minor crises. Everyone is fine, I'm just a little strung out. I'm getting lots of practice living in the moment, speaking truth, and putting compassion first. My car has been on the fritz for a few weeks now. The week before Christmas the radiator started to do strange things. The heat would stop working and the temperature gage would peg on H. My mechanic put some more coolant in the tank and it seemed to stop. Then the car died on Christmas morning. Same thing, no heat, H on the gauge, lots of steam ( Read more... )
