I came across the blog of another fantasy author who likes Hindi movies awhile ago, and one of her recommendations for newcomers was Om Shanti Om, a movie about a movie extra in love with a top actress (at least at first). For my Bollywood friends: YouTube now has movies available, including some Bollywood ones. A quick skim of the first page also revealed one Telugu one, so they might have movies in other Indian languages too.

Am watching Wanted (the one with Salman Khan, not the one with Angelian Jolie). Like it so far, but whoever did the subtitles...wow. At one point there's some swearing, and of course they bleep it out instead of allowing non-native Hindi speakers to learn all those lovely swear words (alas). So yesterday I brought up the fact that apparently my library has both the Tamil and Hindi versions of Ghajini listed as the same movie, and they'd accidentally given me the Tamil version instead of the Hindi version when I took out a hold on it ( Read more... )

We lost power on Sunday afternoon in the enormous storm that passed through the area. We were lucky, though--we had power less than 24 hours later, which is apparently something that cannot be said for much of the region. I have a goal now: finish this new WIP by my birthday (late August). I'm not all that far in it yet, but given how many scenes I seem to be skipping due to worldbuilding issues this should not be a problem.
