We lost power on Sunday afternoon in the enormous storm that passed through the area. We were lucky, though--we had power less than 24 hours later, which is apparently something that cannot be said for much of the region. Good--one night spent trying to learn Sanskrit by flashlight and listening to my dad complain about how hot it was was more than enough. We didn't have anything serious fall on or around our house, but when we drove around a bit on Sunday we did see that a huge tree bough had fallen right about halfway down a little street near our house, completely blocking the road. We didn't give it much thought, since surely one of the people who lived on the blocked street would call the power company about it (especially since, as we later realized when we got closer to it, it's dangling from/being partially supported by a power line, which is both dangerous and potentially power-outage-causing).
However, it was still there on Tuesday. My dad finally decided to call it in, and apparently he was the first one. I just got back from walking the Beast a few minutes ago, and guess what? It's still there.
And for a more minor one: I put Ghajini on hold at the library recently and it came in on Friday. But when I went to pick it up, I found myself thinking "Gee, that's not Aamir Khan on the cover, and it's got some script on it that looks South Indian. And the movie blurb on the back says that the main character is played by Surya." Turns out that apparently no one at the library could be bothered to differentiate between the Hindi-language movie made in 2008 and the, er, earlier Tamil version despite the different languages, different lead actors, and different release dates. I'm definitely calling them on this when I return the movie (which, of course, I'm going to watch, since I was planning to see the Tamil version anyway). Oy.
Got a little bit of a job nibble today. Not going to say any more about it now, though, because I'll want to wait until I can get the entire horrifying story. Funny how I think my life is boring but there have been some pretty hilarious job-related disasters in it.
