GL - Movie Night - Part 44

Nov 10, 2009 21:43

Title: Movie Night
Author: critic2000
Pairing: Olivia/Natalia
Rating: PG-13 to start, for violence (non-sexual) and language. I am not any kind of a medical expert so if there are some glaring errors, please forgive me.
Disclaimer: I don’t own the Guiding Light characters, they belong to CBS and Proctor and Gamble.
Summary: This is set in the spring of 2009. I’ve taking some liberties with the storyline, mainly Natalia never slept with Frank, hence no engagement etc. So our girls have been just continuing forward raising Emma and getting closer to each other though they are still technically just friends, but that will change… This is a hurt/comfort story so they are headed on a rough ride.
Author’s Note: This is my first fan fiction so please be gentle. This would not have been possible if not for the persistent nudging and awesome editing of my beta/great friend croftlara. Comments are welcome.

Chapter 44

Olivia called the home care agency and after a brief discussion with the head of said agency, a new nurse was hired and instructed to come only in the mornings unless otherwise requested.  When she put the phone down she looked over at Natalia in the chair struggling to keep her eyes open. She looks so adorable sitting there fighting to try and stay awake.  Natalia jerked herself upright, despite her closed eyes.  Uh oh, I better grab her before she falls.

Olivia moved over to the chair and squatted down placing her hand on Natalia’s knee.  “Sweetheart, why don’t we get you into bed so you can get comfortable and have a nap.”

“Mmmhmm.”

Olivia stood and held out her hand for Natalia.  “Come on hon.”

Natalia sleepily took Olivia’s hand, remembering even in her half asleep state to take the left one and lifted herself to her feet.  “Yeah, I guess I am a little tired.”

Olivia led Natalia to the bed and pulled back the sheets for her.

Natalia sat and looked up at Olivia and quietly asked, “Are you going to go to work?”

“For a little while.  Lay down, before you know it Buzz will be here with lunch.”  She helped Natalia lean back then pulled the sheets up.  For a minute Olivia stood there running her fingers through Natalia’s bangs.  She heard the Latina’s breathing deepen indicating that she was asleep but Olivia still stood over her friend for a few minutes longer just enjoying being able to watch her.  With a sigh Olivia realized she really did need to check in with her staff and review the latest reports.

After a quick change into a pair of navy pants and a cream coloured blouse, Olivia left a note by the bed reminding Natalia where she was and to call on her Blackberry if she needed her, then she left the room in search of some employees to frighten.

By eleven-thirty Olivia was walking back to her room with a bounce in her step, she had checked the week’s reports, met with her managers and front desk employees but she was most proud of the fact that she had made her concierge cry.  Shaking her head she considered, that woman could freeze time with that stare but I broke through it, haha… Okay it was when I told her that Natalia is going to be okay but it was good to see that she was capable of a true emotion.  All of the employees had expressed concern for Natalia, more even than for herself, the woman who signs their cheques.  Ah well, it just shows how much Natalia is loved and respected around here. Olivia made a mental note to tell Natalia what each person had said about her. Everybody likes to know how much they’re appreciated.

Olivia approached her door and putting her hand on the knob heard a noise coming from the room that sounded like crying, pushing the door open she rushed through to find Natalia sitting in bed actually crying.

Moving quickly to the bed she asked, “What’s wrong?  Do you need your pain meds?”

“Oh Olivia.  I’m fine.”  Natalia wiped her tears from her cheeks as she sniffled.

“But you’re crying?”

Natalia pointed toward the TV, “I’m just watching Dr. Phil.  Boy, what that family on his show has been through.”

Olivia burst out laughing with relief. “You scared the hell out of me.”

Picking up the remote Natalia turned off the TV.  “I’m sorry, guess I’m just a little emotional.”

“That’s okay, you have every right to be.  Have you been awake long?”

“Just long enough to hear about the trials of those poor people on that show.”

Olivia grinned.

“Don’t you laugh at me Olivia!”  Natalia pointed at her friend and tried to contain her own smile, finally she just gave in and burst out laughing herself.  “Okay okay, laugh it up, go for it.”  Olivia joined in and both women laughed until finally when their giggles were dying down, Olivia shook her head, “Oh I do love you.”  Uh oh I said that out loud, didn’t I?

Natalia looked seriously at Olivia, “I love you too.”  More than I can even tell you.

The women regarded each other for a moment until Natalia broke the light tension when she asked, “How was work?”

“Well the place is still standing in our absence.  Actually everything looks good, I’m not too far behind and I got caught up on a lot today.”  Olivia moved to her closet.  “Buzz should be here soon, if you don’t mind I want to get comfortable before he gets here.”

“Okay.”

As Olivia changed into a pair of jeans and a red short-sleeved top, she caught Natalia up on everything they had missed this week and told her all of the kind things people had to say about her.

“Well they’re sweet; I miss all of them too,” Natalia responded when Olivia was finished.  “It shouldn’t be too much longer until I can get back to work.”

Olivia regarded her friend; she has such a work ethic, which though wonderful to see in someone, it sometimes meant people worked when they shouldn’t.  “I’d love for us to get back to business as usual but we’re both going to take our time.”  She hoped that by including herself in the statement, Natalia would accept it.

“I know but I can’t sit around Olivia.  I know I have to focus on healing, which means sleeping more than usual, walking and getting stronger but it won’t take long for me to feel like I need to do something.”

“Well don’t worry, we’ll find you something to do, books and magazines, visitors and don’t forget Dr. Phil.”

Natalia chuckled, “No we can’t forget Dr. Phil.  Well I’ll take my time, I promise but I won’t be able to sit around forever and I happen to know that there are a lot of things that I can do in this bed.”

Olivia paused wide-eyed with her mouth slightly opened and raised her eyebrows. Natalia just looked at her, then her face reddened as she realized just how dirty that sounded.

“Uh…umm…ahhh...”

Olivia wanted to let it go, she did but she just couldn’t, “Hmm you don’t say?   I’m intrigued, anything in particular that you had in mind?”

Natalia swallowed hard and reiterated, “Uh…umm…ahhh…”

Enjoying the heightened pink tinge to her friends’ cheeks Olivia commented, “You’re so cute when you’re flustered and all embarrassed.”

Natalia went to cross her arms over her chest but realizing the difficulty, stuck with her attempt to pout at the teasing which only made things worse, especially since her dimples betrayed her as she fought to smile.

Olivia only laughed, “Nice try Rivera.  ‘Course you still haven’t answered my original question.”

“Ha Ha, very funny.  You know what I meant!”

Still smiling Olivia relented, “Okay, yes I know what you meant and don’t worry; we’ll both have plenty of work when we’re ready to get back to it.”

A loud knock at the door startled them both.  When it was followed by a voice on the other side of the door yelling, “Hey lunch is getting cold out here and I’m not getting any younger!” Olivia opened to door to admit Buzz.

With two plastic bags in his hands Buzz walked over to the desk and put down the food before going over to the bed and kissing Natalia on the head. “How’s my girl doing today?”

Olivia stood on the other side of the room with a mock angry expression, “What am I? Chopped liver?”

Both Buzz and Natalia looked at her then he added, “Keep your pants on; I’ll get to you in a minute!”

Then turning back to Natalia, Buzz shook his head, “She adores me and can be so jealous.”  He walked toward Olivia with his arms outstretched, “Don’t worry I’m glad to see you too.” He wrapped her in a big hug and gave her a kiss on the cheek by way of a greeting.  “Now, are we ready for some lunch?”

The three friends had finished their turkey sandwiches and Buzz moved to clean up, as he reached into the second bag he had brought with him he said, “Okay Natalia, now I don’t want you to feel like you’re missing anything from your meal so I brought you something special.”

Both women looked on confused until Buzz pulled out a container and carried it to Natalia.  He handed it to her and she looked at it questioningly.  “Umm...?”

“Go ahead, it won’t bite!”

Natalia opened the lid and burst out laughing.  “Green Jello!”  Both Olivia and Buzz joined in the laughter and Natalia reached over and swatted Buzz on the arm.  “I love green Jello and I have no doubt that yours is far superior to the hospital’s.  So I’m going to eat it and enjoy it!”  She accepted a spoon from Buzz and dug in.

Olivia adored watching Natalia so happy but she couldn’t help but worry that behind the smiles and the laughter there was something more waiting to be revealed.  They still hadn’t really talked about what happened.  Olivia could admit to herself that she hadn’t pushed the topic out of fear for herself as much as her friend.  Maybe Natalia doesn’t want to deal with it anymore than I do.  Speaking of which… Olivia looked at her watch; it was almost time for her to meet with Reva for their ‘talk’.

Standing Olivia said, “I have to get going.”  Both sets of eyes looked at her. “Natalia is there anything you need before I go?  Or anything that you’d like me to pick up while I’m out?”

“I’m sure if I need anything Buzz can help me but there is something actually I’d like while you’re out.  You mentioned something earlier that had me thinking. I could use a book. I don’t know how long I can survive on daytime TV alone, though I could see how I could become invested in a few of those soaps; it might be nice to have an alternative.  Just something light, I heard that; “Confessions of a Shopaholic” is good.  But only if you happen to go by a bookstore.”

Inwardly Olivia chuckled at the book selection, the words; shopaholic and Natalia in the same sentence just seemed wrong.  “I’ll see what I can do, just call me if you think of anything else.”

Olivia picked up her purse and Blackberry and moved to Natalia to kiss her on the cheek, “I’m a phone call away.”

“I’ll be fine and you know where I am if you need me,” Natalia responded.

Olivia nodded and expelled a calming breath. I already need you, I’m scared and I don’t want to do this but I know I have to. She then walked over to Buzz and leaned in close to his ear, “If she needs anything, I expect you to call me.”

“Would you get out of here already, I have plans for my girl and I.”

Olivia’s eyebrows rose, as did Natalia’s.

“Yep,” Buzz pulled out a deck of cards and several rolls of coins, “I’m going to teach you how to play poker.”

“You are eh?” Natalia said.

“That’s right kiddo, you, me and a bunch of pennies, we’re all set.”

Olivia smiled knowingly, “Well you two have fun.”  She winked at Natalia, “See ya.”

As Olivia left the room she could hear Buzz start to explain, “Okay so I’m going to deal…”
