GL - Movie Night - Part 8

Sep 06, 2009 23:09

Title: Movie Night
Author: critic2000
Pairing: Olivia/Natalia
Rating: PG-13 to start, for violence (non-sexual) and language.
Disclaimer: I don’t own the Guiding Light characters, they belong to CBS and Proctor and Gamble.
Summary: This is set in the spring of 2009. I’ve taking some liberties with the storyline, mainly Natalia never slept with Frank, hence no engagement etc. So our girls have been just continuing forward raising Emma and getting closer to each other though they are still technically just friends, but that will change… This is a hurt/comfort story so they are headed on a rough ride.
Author’s Note: This is my first fan fiction so please be gentle. This would not have been possible if not for the persistent nudging and awesome editing of my beta/great friend croftlara. Comments are welcome.

Chapter 8

“Friday nights we have a movie night, Emma, Natalia and me. It’s become our ritual.” Olivia felt like she was sharing a secret part of their life with an outsider, even though it was just Frank, it was still their own special night and for a second time tonight the privacy of it was being violated.

“We were just watching our movie, Emma was asleep, Natalia and I weren’t far behind, then these men came bursting through the door.”

Frank questioned, “Was the door locked?”

Olivia sighed, she could hear the reproach in his voice, “No”. Thanks Frankie, like I don’t feel shit enough for not protecting my family. She knew she should have locked the damn doors at the farmhouse but Natalia never seemed to worry about that, she thought it felt more welcoming if the doors weren’t always locked. So Olivia learned to forget to lock them, she was well aware that it had already become a very costly lesson.

“Anyway, these men came in, one of them was injured.” Olivia explained how Danny had held a gun to her head while Emma got the first aid kit and though she was still angry about it, when she told Frank how Natalia tried to help, she kept that anger out of her voice.

She continued to tell Frank in detail about every violent act, every threat or warning the gunmen inflicted on them. Then she remembered what really changed the situation from bleak to devastating. “The injured guy Brian said the big guy’s name was Danny and let it slip that they were brothers. Then Danny accidentally said Brian’s name. It was a mess.”

Olivia paused and let the realization of that seep into Frank’s consciousness as he closed his eyes and blew out a breath.

“Exactly, we knew right then that it meant that we weren’t getting out of there alive if we didn’t do something. It was either them or us, ya know? I really felt like this was going to get violent and somebody was going to die and Frankie, you can be damn sure I wasn’t going to allow it to be Emma or Natalia. I was trying to think of a way to get upstairs. Ya see my gun was so close, just upstairs in my closet, bullets in my underwear drawer just waiting for me but I couldn’t get to it.”

“You have a permit I assume? Did Natalia know about the gun?”

Lowering the icepack from her head she placed both hands on the table and in an exasperated voice answered. “Yes of course I have a permit Frank. And yes only Natalia and I know about the gun and where it and the bullets are.”

Frank was shocked “I’m surprised she allowed it in her house actually.”

“Yeah she’s never been very happy about it, but for some reason she let me keep it. And right now I thank God for that.”

Olivia continued, “Emma said she had to go to the bathroom and fortunately, Danny had been so thrown off by everything, he actually said she could go but Natalia had to take her. So I figured, this was my chance. I was just ready to lunge at him and I heard a shot. Then another one.” Olivia stopped and took a shaky drink from her water glass as she tried to steady herself.

Frank put his hand over hers, allowing her a moment to gather herself and then asked her to continue.

Olivia took a deep breath, “One minute I’m ready to attack the guy with my bare hands, the next I get blood and brain matter splattered all over me, then…Jesus. I saw her fall Frank. When he shot her, I saw her fall back against the wall, drop the gun and slide down onto the step and clutch at her chest.” Olivia paused to fight back the tears that threatened and her rising heart rate as she re-lived that terrifying moment. She just wanted this retelling to be over just like she wanted this whole nightmare to be over.

Frank studied the woman telling the story in front of him. She was trying so hard to keep it together. He appreciated that because Frank found himself unsteady at hearing what had happened to Natalia. But he still had a job to do so he composed himself before asking, “Do you know why Natalia shot Brian? I mean he couldn’t have been the bigger threat?”

“I have no idea. I wish I knew. I don’t think Natalia’s ever shot a gun before. I asked her to come with me to the shooting range and she did once but would never again. I don’t know, maybe she wasn’t even aiming at Brian. Whatever the case, it did the job.”

“So, Natalia shot Brian, Danny shot Natalia?”

Olivia agreed then added, “Then Danny started to turn his gun toward me, and I reacted. I got him to the floor and honestly, I don’t know what I did to him between taking him down and hearing Emma’s voice from the top of the stairs. I just know that I had his head in my hands, there was a lot of blood on the floor and he wasn’t conscious. The truth is I don’t remember much else of what happened other than yelling at Emma and going to Natalia and trying to stop the bleeding. The next thing I knew, you were there pulling me away from Natalia.”

“Okay Olivia. I don’t think I need to ask any further questions right now but we may have more later? And if you think of anything else, you know where I’ll be.”

“Yep, right here with me waiting for news about Natalia.”

Frank nodded and gave a slight smile, “I just have to run to the station to file my report but I promise I’ll be back as soon as I can.”

With that Frank got up, put his hand on Olivia’s shoulder and saying nothing, left the office.

Sitting there now alone, Olivia realized that she had been completely honest with Frank and was completely lost now that she had gone over every detail. It made it so real. It was no dream, she wasn’t going to wake up to the three of them still cuddled up on the couch, the last credits of ‘Spy Kids’ rolling by on screen. No, they were somewhere new now. In a place where Emma saw one of her mommies near death and covered in blood, saw the other mommy beating a man to within an inch of his life and saw another man dead with part of his head blown away. A place where Natalia had shot and killed a man and where she herself had experienced more fear than when Philip kidnapped her child all those years ago.

Olivia Spencer could handle a lot of emotions, she used them, they worked for her not against and yet right in this moment emotion had made her lost. Fear, for Emma, for Natalia, for herself. Yes it pushed her to act but she acted too late, Natalia had to take control and look where that got her?   She hated this fear, she hated those men, she hated this hospital and this town and in that moment the fear changed to anger and she pounded her fists on the table in front of her and yelled at no one in particular. “How dare they?! Who the hell did they think they were coming in to MY home, scaring MY family, shooting MY…my friend. They’re both mine and you tried to take them away. I wish I’d have killed you both myself.” And with that she picked up the water glass in front of her and hurled it. It smashed against the wall, what was left of its contents dribbled toward the floor.

Olivia put her hands flat on the table and willed herself to calm down. “Just breathe. This isn’t helping, this won’t change anything. You need to be in control because Natalia will need you, Emma will need you. Don’t lose it now Spencer.”

Her heart beat was just getting back to normal when the door opened. Lillian stood there with a drawn look on her face. Olivia instantly froze.

“She’s having trouble, Olivia. She’d lost a lot of blood and the bullet was lodged”

Olivia interrupted, “Lillian! Is she still alive?”
