GL - Movie Night - Part 4

Sep 02, 2009 22:20

Title: Movie Night
Author: critic2000
Pairing: Olivia/Natalia
Rating: PG-13 to start, for violence (non-sexual) and language.
Disclaimer: I don’t own the Guiding Light characters, they belong to CBS and Proctor and Gamble.
Summary: This is set in the spring of 2009. I’ve taking some liberties with the storyline, mainly Natalia never slept with Frank, hence no engagement etc. So our girls have been just continuing forward raising Emma and getting closer to each other though they are still technically just friends, but that will change… This is a hurt/comfort story so they are headed on a rough ride.
Author’s Note: This is my first fan fiction so please be gentle. This would not have been possible if not for the persistent nudging and awesome editing of my beta/great friend laracroft. Comments are welcome.

Additional Note: Don't worry when you read this next bit, Emma's going to be fine.

Part 1 ) (  Parts 2 & 3 )

Chapter 4

For a time, the only sound that could be heard in the room was the ragged breathing of the man on the couch as he struggled to stay awake while the pain of his wound tried to pull him into unconsciousness. Danny paced, looking from his brother to the women on the floor, to the window then back to his brother. While Olivia had resumed cuddling and rocking her child, Natalia sat with her knees pulled to her chest, occasionally shifting her body in an attempt to get comfortable on the hard floor.

Olivia’s head hurt so much that it was making it difficult to order her thoughts from time to time. God I need an Asprin or a dozen martinis, maybe both. The longer this went on the worse it looked for all of them. That guy on the couch wasn’t going to miraculously heal and that other guy, well he looked like he was ready to lose it any second. Reluctantly, Olivia looked at Natalia. She was still angry with the dark haired woman but like it or not she needed her help.

Natalia noticed Olivia looking at her. She was tired and she was feeling increasingly gross with all of the dried blood all over her hands. She couldn’t even try to hide it anymore. She tried to read what was in Olivia’s eyes, past the pain of the headache she could see written there, she saw anger again but also fear. Then she saw Olivia lean slightly toward her when the gunman moved toward the windows and heard her pleading whisper, “We need to get out of here. We have to do something.”

“They have the guns, I don’t know what to do.” Natalia admitted. As much as Natalia wanted to see this through peacefully, the reddening bump growing on the side of Olivia’s head was a reminder to her that these men were certainly capable of violence and Christian or not, she had a responsibility to Olivia and Emma and vowed to do what it took to help them get out of this. She reached over and took Olivia’s hand giving it a hard squeeze. After all, God helps those who help themselves, right?

“Mommy!” Emma woke with a start. She had managed to fall asleep to her mother’s gentle rocking even with the turmoil of their current situation.

“Shhh, Jellybean, it’s ok.” Olivia soothed as best she could but Emma looked terrified.

Unable to control herself, Emma began to cry softly, “I... I… had a bad dream. There were bad men with guns.” As soon as Emma realized that the dream was real she began to sob as she clung to her mother. Both Olivia and Natalia tried to calm the upset little girl, especially when they noticed a certain gun toting hostage taker staring at them with a growing scowl on his face.

“Baby, please calm down.” Olivia urged as she saw the tall man pacing more as the crying continued. “It’s going to be ok, just stop crying.”

“You better shut that brat up bitch or I swear, I will.” Danny had crossed the room to the huddled women in a flash as the crying continued to grate on his last nerve.   I got enough goin’ on in my head, I don’t need this fuckin’ noise.  “SHUT UP!” He bent down and screamed directly at Emma.

For a half a second it worked on Emma while she was stunned but in the end it only served to earn him a glare from both women and make the child cry even harder.

Danny had had it, he just couldn’t take the crying anymore. “That’s ENOUGH!” With his free hand he roughly grabbed Emma by the back of her duck print pajamas, managing to snatch her away from her mother’s tight embrace, two voices and four arms reaching for her screaming their disapproval, and threw her to the floor toward the stairs.    He turned to the cowering child and aimed his gun at her.

Like a shot Olivia jumped up and moved in front of Emma. Glaring at the man in front of her, and with full venom in her voice as she spoke, “You hurt my kid and you can watch me kill your little buddy before I make you wish you were never born.”

Olivia Spencer knew in her borrowed heart of hearts that she would do just that. If that bastard with the gun even looks at Emma the wrong way again, she is going to do something that will either get herself killed or she will take a life herself tonight.

If looks could kill, this man would be a crumpled heap on the floor.

Somehow the gunman managed to hold his bladder, though it threatened to fail at the determined look on the woman’s face. With more bravado than he really felt at that moment he practically spat at Olivia; “Lady you and your friend make sure the kid stays quiet or I’ll make you wish you were never born.” With that, he turned on his heel so she wouldn’t see his gun hand shaking and walked back to the window, willing his heart to stop pounding out of his chest and the words now screaming through his brain. I almost killed a kid, my fucking Jesus, I almost killed a kid…

Natalia couldn’t breathe. For one long minute, she sat there against the wall unmoving, trying to comprehend what had just happened. Emma was crying, then the gunman got upset and actually grabbed her away from Olivia and pointed his gun at her. He looked like he was actually going to shoot Emma… Emma, the sweetest little girl on the planet, a child she considered her own. Olivia, thank God, was able to stop him, though she probably came very close to getting herself killed. Natalia herself had felt rooted to the floor for just a moment, some unseen force keeping her in place while Olivia moved to her daughters’ aid. Finally, finding her body allowing her to move, she was about to rush against the man from behind when she’d noticed almost a second too late that the smaller gunman was watching her intently from his vantage point on the couch, she watched as weak as he was he lifted his gun and pointed it toward her to keep her still. Something in his barely focused eyes left no doubt in her mind that even in his condition he would back up his friend.

That was the straw, she realized.

The injured man bleeding into her couch, now lowering his gun, that terrible person standing looking out of her window; they didn’t matter anymore, coming out of this with five lives intact suddenly wasn’t her concern. The only lives that mattered now, were the two lives crawling back toward her open waiting arms and her own. When Olivia and Emma reached her she embraced them both and held on for dear life. She could feel three heartbeats drumming wildly in three heaving chests.

In that moment, Natalia swore to God to keep those three hearts beating at all costs.

Olivia was shaking so hard that she thought the fillings in her teeth would come loose. She clung to Emma and Natalia as though her life depended on it while she could feel and hear Natalia checking over Emma to make sure she was uninjured. She could feel her own body crashing from the adrenaline rush that allowed her to stand up to that bastard.   Her head was pounding in cadence to the wild thumping of her heart.

He threw my baby across the floor and held a gun toward her.

Just thinking about it again made her stomach threaten to rebel. She swallowed against the rising bile and tried to calm her mind and body. She needed to stay in control just a little while longer, as if she could call this in control. She didn’t know what stopped the gunman from killing her and Emma both but for whatever it was she was grateful. She couldn’t stop the image from creeping into her brain.

Him coming toward them, grabbing Emma by the back of her pajamas, God he was so strong to pull the child out of a mother’s grasp but then again she was so weak from the knock to her head. She had felt so impotent being unable to hang on to Emma. She was her mother, shouldn’t that trump some punk, weakened or not? I should have done more to protect her. But the next thing she’d known was that she was standing in front of a gun, her baby on the floor crying behind her, and all she could do was will the man not to fire.

And somehow, it worked…

She remembered the look on his face; fear. Could he have been afraid of her? Unlikely. She was unarmed and weak. But she allowed herself a touch of a smile at the thought, well I was putting on my best Olivia glare complete with eyebrow raise. She shook her head and just thanked whatever power had given her that strength to stand in front of her daughter and face down the barrel of a gun with only a fierce look on her face and a prayer in her heart.

Olivia was pulled from her reverie by a hand on her cheek tilting her face up to meet brown eyes. For an instant Olivia found herself thinking that she could fall into those eyes forever. “What?”

“Olivia are you ok?” Came the whispered reply from Natalia.

“Umm… I think so. Emma?”

“She’s fine, he didn’t hurt her.” Natalia could see that Olivia’s breathing had finally settled.

Olivia tore her eyes from the great brown depths that she was mesmerized by to look at her child, “Emma? Look at me baby. Are you okay?”

Emma sniffed, “Mommy, why did he do that?”

“I don’t know Jellybean. But we’re going to try to keep quiet and do what he says so that it doesn’t ever happen again, okay?” Olivia hugged her daughter closer and dared him to try again. Next time, she promised herself, she’d just have to tear him apart with her bare hands, gun or no gun.

Sensing the edge Olivia was teetering on, Natalia began to slowly rub small circles on Olivia’s back. Hoping her touch would both calm Olivia and reassure her that she was not alone; Natalia couldn’t help but admit to herself that she needed this reassurance too.

With the touch, Olivia turned her head to look at Natalia. Eyes brimming with unshed tears she managed a slight smile of thanks to the woman who could ground her like no one else had ever been able to. Olivia closed her eyes while Natalia kept up her ministrations and leaned her head back, wishing the headache would just go away so she could think straight.

To be continued...
