I had a really nice weekend. Saturday I had a picnic with one of my very good D.C. friends at a lovely European-style park near my house. We ate wraps and popcorn and iced coffee and made friends with a squirrel brave enough to come close enough for us to throw him some popcorn. So. Auckland.

It’s been two weeks now. I’m starting to get the hang of the job down here: unlike the US where it is phone calls with admin in between it is actually reversed in NZ. In general it is a nice break from all those nasty calls though we tend to get some unhappy calls here as well but nowhere near the amount that we did in the States. ( Read more... )

But I have things to look forward to: Amanda Fucking Palmer in NYC in a couple of days and then a month later in Los Angeles. And I'll be home for almost a week. That is the good.

Wow, these past four days just flew past.
I was ridiculously busy and am paying the price for it now.
I made it up to New York City early Friday afternoon in some nasty pounding rain which seemed to let up by the time we arrived at Chelsea Piers but the wind was seriously biting and I was freezing. I helped set up and get things ready for the weekend ( Read more... )

I haven't even been here a week yet and I come home every day exhausted. There's so much to learn, so much to do, so much to ask and figure out on my own. I had a full day of phone calls today, my first, and in general haven't had many strange calls as of yet.

Apparently riding your bicycle to work is a very common and acceptable mode of transportation. It's so funny to see Japanese businessmen in suits and ties on a dingy old bike fly by as they narrowly miss careening into you. My entire day in a nutshell:

- Get up super early to work (8 hrs.)
- Drive to my parents' place (4 hrs. - almost 2 hours longer than it should take)
- Walk into the dreaded home videos of my family back when I was 6 years old because my brother's fiancee is here.
