The Cats has been on insulin for a few days now. Injecting him hasn't been bad. He's going in Tuesday for another glucose measurement and a dose adjustment. The Cats is still at the vet, and will probably stay tonight as well. For unknown reasons the insulin they gave him is still in his system, and it's not safe to take him off the glucose drip until it's all cleared. Today the cat is at the vet. They gave him a trial dose of insulin, based on his fasting glucose etc, and monitored him to see how he reacted. What they thought was a medium dose turned out to be a large dose for the Cats. After a number of hours his blood sugar went very low, low enough that he's now on a glucose drip. Last week we took the Cats back in for a follow up test. We had switched his diet over to something much more diabetic-friendly. That change resolved the polydipsia/polyuria immediately, but his fasting glucose is no lower and he's still losing weight. Tuesday night I stopped in for a nice visit with rdhdsnippet, scherzoid and of course dababybean. It was my first time holding the baby, which was nice. Ed came back from the vet tonight. It seems that all is well, though the area around his right eye was shaved and now looks pretty funny. The vet had determined that his digestive system was working ok (a big worry with small animals post-anaesthesia) but his appetite seemed off.
