Monday I posted about Allerca, a company selling hypoallergenic cats. I linked to an article that said Allerca puts prospective buyers through a battery of allergy tests, to be sure the problem really is a cat allergy. This is understandable, since too many customers saying your $4000 product "didn't work" isn't good for sales.

It seems Gateway has been watching too much daytime TV. Specifically Squirrels Gone Wild, which airs on our deck pretty much all the time. (At night it's Racoon Rampage.) Tonight around 11:30 we let him out on the deck for a bit. Today was the cat's 7th day without insulin, and his glucose readings are very steady at mid-80s post-prandial. He had a 74 which was closer to fasting; he nearly gnawed my arm off trying to get food while I was taking that one. We'll continue to monitor him every so often, and take him in for some related blood work, but for now he's doing fine. ( Read more... )

Today the Cats' morning glucose was 84, 9 points lower than yesterday's. (The times were slightly different so don't read too much into that.) So today I'm not giving him any insulin, and we'll see how he does. Today and especially tomorrow should tell if he's ready to come off the insulin or not ( Read more... )

Gateway went in for another blood glucose reading today, which was 330. This is roughly 100 points down from where he started, but still not under control. The doctor was pretty busy when I left so I have not heard back as far as changing the insulin dose. I'll try to call him tomorrow. I presume he'll want to bump up from 1 unit to 2 ( Read more... )
