just received this postcard via postcrossing and would like to know what the Frisian phrases on the front are, as well as the message in Dutch (I believe) on the back although I have a general idea of what it says.

In Dutch there's the saying "de beste stuurlui staan aan wal", which translates to "the best steersmen are ashore". It means that it's easy to criticize something you're not involved in or responsible for.

Is there a good English equivalent for this saying?

Doing your research in a language that you don't speak is a bitch... so now I'm looking for regular simple past words in Dutch that are homophone with or spelled the same way as (either is fine) another Dutch word.

Hello,
I have been researching my family background, and I found that my grandfather was involved in an accidental bombing of Nijmegen, Holland. I found a book on the event, and it contains quite a bit of information, but it's all in Dutch.
