The Word 'Retard': Stop using It

I found this article very touching: a mother with a child who has cognitive delays spreading the word for people to stop using this offensive term, the people who get it, and the people who don't. Please, you all. Try not to be one of the people who don't.

Life update: still tired. I feel like this might be what happened to my old depression: instead of actually feeling depressed, I just feel drained. I do have cycles where I don't feel like doing much of anything, and that's when my livejournal goes silent and my writing dries up and I don't feel like watching much of anything, either. A note: there are some words that I believe have a legitimate use, but that use has grown so open and so offensive that I no longer trust the word when I see it. One of those words is 'whine'. I'm sorry, any argument that involves: "If gay people don't like the laws in America, they should move to Canada," is IMMEDIATELY invalid. Call me an asshole all you want. You're still fucking wrong.

I probably shouldn't use fandom_secrets as a judgement for most of humanity, but every now and then it pops up with something that hits too close to home.
