Whip It

This is the roller-derby movie directed by Drew Barrymore that zipped through theaters awhile ago. It stars Ellen Page of Juno, and is a modest movie with a very similar indie spirit, but didn't catch fire like Juno did, so you probably missed it. I blame the title. I had more cogent things to say, but I'm too sleepy. Perhaps I'll revisit them later. In the meantime, my summary is that the movie begins with the strong authenticity and wonderment of The Abyss, and ends with the dramatic and political sophistication of Return of the Jedi.
