What's the Matter with Kansas? Well, it's kind of boring. I base this highly scientific assessment of
Kansas on my sole visit to it, which was at the end of the first day of the 2008 trip from Atlanta to Seattle to help my sister move to Alaska. We took I-70W across the length of the entire state, with an overnight stop in
Topeka.
A lot of people say Kansas is flat. Speaking as someone who grew up in the
Red River Valley, bullshit. If the 2-3 miles on either side of the interstate is any indication, Kansas isn't particularly flat at all. It's not hilly by any stretch, but it certainly lacks the endless flat vistas of home.
We drove past
Russell, which proudly proclaims that it is the home of
Bob Dole. We drove through the inferior
Kansas City. I can't say that we sampled the cultural delights of Kansas. Of course, this supposes that there are cultural delights in Kansas. I'm sure there must be, but I can't imagine what they are. If you know, drop me a comment. It would have to be pretty awesome to make me go back to Kansas.
