If I exclude two stops in
LAX in late 2004 and early 2005 (and I do), my sole trip to
California was when I was approximately six years of age, so roughly 1983 or so. This means that there's been a longer gap between my visit to California and the present day than there is for any other state on my list.
Fortunately, even at the age of 6 my visit was memorable enough to get full credit. The ostensible occasion was a family bar mitzvah in
Sacramento. I don't remember much about that city other than our hosts had a pool.
After that (or possibly before, it's been a while), my family rented a car and drove down to
San Francisco. I have some reasonably clear memories of the city by the bay, but there are obviously about a gazillion things there worth visiting so I definitely need to return one day.
Somewhere in that whole bit we took a side trip to
Yosemite. In particular, I recall hiking past
Mirror Lake. We also looked at
sequoias, which I'm pretty sure was the
Mariposa Grove as I recall visiting the tree with the tunnel cut through it.
The list of things I'd like to do in California is very, very long; suggestions are welcome in the comments. Just for starters, there are five major league baseball stadiums there, including the home of the
Oakland A's. I've got family in
San Diego and multiple friends in the Bay area. Suffice it to say that although I can legitimately check this state off the list, I really need to get back there.
