Georgia is on my mind much more now that my little sister
tigerlily_blue lives in Atlanta again. I visited Atlanta with her twice: once before she moved there the first time, and once to help her move out to Alaska. Both times I stayed with the fabulous KF and Kitten combo. The latter time we drove through a decent chunk of the northwest corner of the state on our way west.
Neither of those trips was my first trip into Georgia, or indeed into Atlanta. When I was a sophomore in high school my family took a Christmas break and drove south to Fort Lauderdale to visit two of my father's aunts. This trip took me into two new states, Tennessee and Florida being the others [ooh, spoilers]. Georgie was merely a pass through in both directions. I specifically remember driving past the now demolished
Fulton County Stadium on a ridiculous highway that had more lanes than I'd ever seen in my entire life.
I never did get into into Fulton County Stadium before it was turn down, but on I did make it to its successor,
Turner Field, for a Braves game when my sister and I went there the first time. The other major attraction I've been to was on the same trip and is the
Georgia Aquarium, which was underwhelming. On the latter trip we ate at the Watershed, which is (or at least was once) owned by
one or both of the Indigo Girls and had fabulous fried chicken.
tigerlily_blue and KF ate their way through a significant number of brunch places in her year there, most memorably for me being the Flying Biscuit Midtown, where we went with KF and KM.
Given that
tigerlily_blue lives there now, I expect I'll make it a bunch of other things in the future, plus brunch of course. And maybe I'll even make it to non-Atlanta portions of Georgia at some point.
