What's going on in North Africa now is both excilirating and frightening. It's excilirating because I think it's wonderful to see people fight for freedom, and it gives me hope to see that the desire to live in a free country, is universal. The business with Julian Assange is getting more and more absurd by the hour. The accusations thrown on the Swedish justice system are ridiculous and I can't BELIEVE that so many people take his words for it. He called Sweden 'the Saudiarabia of feminism'. It's really worrying what's going on in Egypt. It looked liked it might go a peaceful way there for a while, until all of a sudden this violent eruption of attacks and battles. I'd say it's a sign that Mubarak is losing his grip. It seems unclear whether the army & the police supports him, at any rate, so he has to - or so it appears - pay people ( Read more... )

I've just been to see the film Of Gods and Men a French film about a small group of monks living in a monastery in an unspecified North African country in the 1990s, with increasing secetarian violence. It was such a beautiful, important and humane film. It's about religion but also a humanitarian life view. It's the kind of film I wish everyone ( Read more... )
