Chapter 38
Parker busted up giggling as she tickled him. "I love you...too..mommy but stoooop." he laughed.
Booth walked up and smiled. "Uut oh she found out that you just LOVE to be tickled." he teased his son.
"Do...not..." Parker laughed some more.
"So does Daddy" she turned and tipped Booth over her hip to the ground and held him down "hurry Parker get him, I can't hold him for long." She was laughing so hard it was becoming harder and harder to concentrate and he was beginning to overpower her.
"Temperance!" Booth cried out in laughter as she tackled when he was unaware. "Not fair guys." he groaned when Parker joined in. Towards the end though the worst thing was with her wiggling all over him it was becoming almost impossible for him to not begin getting turned on.
Parker rolled off of his parents and giggled at them all tangled together. "Look a mommy and daddy pretzel!"
She leaned in and licked the corner of his mouth and pouted. "Ohhh, no salt, I like salt on my pretzels" she laughed as she saw Booth distinct discomfort. Rolling onto her side she whispered in his ear, "while I love salt I love chocolate even more" she grinned at him. "Booth I'm starving did you say we had food?"
Booth cleared his throat and sat up. "Yeah right here," he said grabbing the bags and began pulling out food. "A cheeseburger and fries for the little man." he said handing it to Parker.. "A Caesar salad with tofu and fries for the pretty lady." he said handing it to Bones and then pulled out his own bacon, swiss burger with his fries. He then remembered something. "Oh I left the drinks at the car." he then got up and went to the car.
Parker licked his lips as he started nibbling on his fries. "Mmmmm."
She looked at her salad, normally it would have been just what she wanted, but it wasn't and she had no idea why she was so disappointed. He remembered everything she liked and even got her fries. Oh well, and she started in on her salad waiting for her drink, hoping he did remember she wanted a chocolate shake.
Booth came back with two drink carriers that had their shakes and some waters. "Here we go." he passed out his and Bones' chocolate shakes and Parker's strawberry one.
"Yeah!" Parker squealed and did a little happy dance in his seat.
“Oh yummy Booth chocolate my favorite. Thanks, water too great. While we were on our way back to the car I noticed an interesting antique shop I'd like to visit after we eat if we still have time. What do you think Parker do you think you can do an antique shop?"
Parker didn't seem worried by that but confused. "What's an antique shop?"
"It is a place where they sell items that were owned by other people but they are really really old. I noticed this one had old toys and books so I thought we might find some things you might like. What about you Booth care to go antique shopping?"
"Sure sounds like fun." Booth said with a smile as he leaned in and kissed her on the cheek.
Parker giggled, "You really like old stuff huh? I mean you work with REALLY, REALLY, REALLY old bones and crap."
"Parker language! Yes I do but that is because usually they are much more beautiful than what you can find today. Also Booth if they have toys they may have comic books too. Are there any you want in particular?"
That has Booth's eyes lighting up even more. "I wonder if they have any old Justice League graphic novels?" he said before taking another bite of his burger. He was definitely thankful things had gotten better since they were in the restaurant.
She was pushing her salad around, not really interested in it. At least she had her fry’s and shake. As she looked at her boys she saw they were done. "Are we ready to go?"
"I am but you aren't." Parker said looking at her still full salad bowl.
Booth looked when Parker said this and got a confused and concerned look on his face. "Everything okay?"
"Yeah, I guess I just don't want salad. Come on lets go." She got up quickly trying to hurry them hoping Booth would not comment on her salad anymore. She didn't know why she didn't want him to comment on it anymore than why she didn't want to eat it but there it was just the idea of putting all that green stuff and the soy in her mouth made her want to gag. Oh well maybe she was coming down with something.
Even though Bones didn't want Booth to comment he wasn't exactly being perceptive at the moment. "Since when do you not like salad?" he asked his voice a bit louder than it should have been.
"Dad..." Parker said giving his hand a squeeze. He saw his Daddy getting angry and didn't want him to.
"What the salad? No it was fine Booth, I just find I'm not really hungry after all. You got the perfect salad, everything I love." Placing her hand on his in an effort to let him know it really was fine. "Maybe I was just looking forward to that hamburger a little more than I thought. The salad is perfect Booth really. I'll save it for later. If everyone’s ready lets go look at the shop" she said as she began to clear away their make-shift picnic items. "Come on lets go."
Booth looked like he was going to protest but stopped himself and nodded. "Yeah let's go." he said as he helped her grab the garbage.
Parker looked at his parents and could tell something was going on. He frowned a little before he stood up and attempted to fold the blanket they were sitting on.
As they walked toward the store she wrapped one arm around Booth's waist and held Parker's hand with her other. Once inside the store she found some beautiful jewelry including a perfect diamond ring. "Booth look at this ring isn't it beautiful?" Without thinking she had placed the ring on her left ring finger to show him it's beauty.
Booth looked down and saw the diamond on her ring finger and felt his heart speed up. Of course it had crossed his mind... but at the same time wasn't sure if the timing was right with all the drama. Now seeing her like this made his insides turn to mush. "It is nice." he said with a nod.
Parker had managed to dash to another section of the store where he was looking at toys and books.
She sighed as she removed the ring and replaced it in its box. She didn't know where the words came from but the next few made sad. "It would make the perfect wedding ring." she whispered putting the box down. Walking over to Parker she asked "what have you found here Parker?"
Booth stayed where they had been standing feeling his stomach twisting and he felt bad because he figured she was upset with him. He then got an idea and quickly grabbed the ring up and rushed towards an employee before she could see what he was doing. No, he didn't plan on proposing right then... but it never hurt to have a ring.
Parker looked up from the red metal pickup truck he was pushing around on the floor. "It's a REALLY old truck. It's even made out of metal rather than plastic like stuff now."
"Yeah it is old would you like it? You would have to promise not to throw it." Bones told him.
"I wouldn't throw it," Parker said as he hugged the toy to his chest.
"Ok, let’s look for a cookie jar. I remember one from when I was your age and my Mom filled it with cookies all the time. I have always wanted to get one like it but haven't found one yet. Let’s go look." Then went over to where the china and dishes were and there it was, the exact one she had been looking for. "Oh Parker they have it." she said quietly as she reached out a finger to run it across the top of the white pig. As she looked at it memories of baking cookies on a rainy day came to the forefront of her memory. She reached out and picked it up carefully turning to look for Booth. Seeing him she walked over "did you find what you wanted?"
"Yeah I did," Booth said even though he wasn't holding anything, well not that anybody could see. He had bought the ring and then totally forgot to look at the reading material section.
Parker caught him on this and looked confused. "You don't have nothin... Mommy has her pig jar and I have my truck, what you got?"
Booth quickly thought and smiled. "I'm just happy you guys are."
Do you want to look for your comic books Booth we still have a few minutes."
"Graphic Novels, Bones and no I'm cool." Booth said as he walked with the two of the to buy their purchases. He took out his debit card and went about buying the cookie jar and the truck. Sure, it was actually her money, but he still felt good being the one to physically buy it.
