Again Reita was on duty that night, soon he would have to check on Sakamoto-san after going to Rm. 108, where the patient called Ruki had been staying for days. Nothing had happened to the unconscious man since the day he witnessed the strange exchange of conversation in Ruki’s ward, actually there wasn’t any visitor coming at all.
There was no sign of improvement for the young man’s condition; Reita couldn’t say he was surprised since there was Sakamoto-san’s sample before him, though he still felt sorry to know that one more person had fallen victim to whatever that caused such mysterious and seemingly cureless coma.

The blond man pushed the door to Ruki’s ward open and he looked in, almost immediately his eyes widened considerably at the sight before him, the patient with blenched hair wasn’t here, the bed was empty.

Reita’s eyes widened due to what he had seen, then he quickly searched the ward for any possible route of escape to explain the patient’s vanish but he had found none, all the windows in the room was locked from the inside and there was no evident of force-entrance. How could this happen? A surprise gasp left his lips before he drew himself back out of the empty ward, then turned and run along the corridor. He needed to inform the manager of the patient’s disappearance…

++flashback++

“Who’s there?”

What came out from the layers of exotic tropical plants to greet her was never what she would have expected; along with the soft footstep there came a young man with pale skin and longish dark hair drifting down his shoulders and….quite numbers of piercing on both of his ears and his lips, his eyebrows, the girl never saw anyone putting piercing on their faces like this before; stranger still, those exotic piercing didn’t mar the man’s beauty in any bit. Beside this, Midori wasn’t used to seeing men with appearance and hair such as this, the young man as handsome that he certainly was, had an outlandish feeling around his thin tall frame.
She was even more surprised as she noticed her pet birds being cradled in the young man’s palms, yet she was even more surprised to see that those little birds stayed atop of the stranger’s palms so tamely, like they had been trained for years to behave so.

“Oh, that’s my birds!” forgiving the nervousness and suspicion he had experienced previously, she exclaimed at the slight of her pet birds, pointing at them in a nearly childish manner, but soon caught a hold of herself, remembering to act more ladylike. “So…would you please give them back to me? Actually I came here looking for them.”
The stranger only smiled, the smile was kind but there was something about it that caused Midori to feel funny...like a few little ants were crawling their way from beneath her skin.

The young stranger only smiled wider to her childish excitement she had just display, then his arms stretched out to offer her the two stirring birds resting on his palms.

“There you are, little miss. Take them, they are yours, right?” the stranger spoke to her in a deep steady voice.

Midori stared up at the tall figure before her, then lowered her sight back to his opened palms, deep in thoughts for a while before she hesitantly stepped forward, bringing up the iron birdcage and opening the cage’s door, and with the man’s association, putting the birds back into their cage. During the brief process their fingers touched accidentally and Midori felt something electric lingering on her skin even after they broken apart.

The strange but not unpleasant sensation made her suddenly felt shyer than usual, so the girl looked down at the cage in her hands just to avoid meeting the man’s stare, though she could feel the stranger’s eyes never left her. There was a moment of silence between them, the only sound to be heard was the soft sound of the running water in the narrow cannels nearby.
She had come here to look for her precious birds like she had told the stranger, now she had found them already……supposedly she should be leaving right? But curiosity had got the better of her, she just wanted to know more about this mysterious young man, who he was and why he was here in the northern wing, if he were a resistant in this mansion why she had never seen him around before? Why she had never heard anyone in the house mentioning the existence of such person? So many questions she would like to ask but lacking the courage to just utter them.

Midori looked back up only when she heard the man turning around and leaving. She immediately gathered herself and hurried toward the man, and called out. ”Wait!”

The dark hair stranger stopped and turned back, looking down at the girl. Now they were only about five feet away from each other. Swallowing a lump at her throat, Midori looked straight up to the man’s gleaming dark eyes and asked. “Who are you?”

But the man only closed his eyes and shouted his head, and then once again he turned his back to her, slowly walking backward. Annoyed of being ignored, Midori followed the man quickly and asked again. “What are you doing here anyway?”

This caused the dark hair youth to stop and turned his head back to the girl again. His expression shifted slightly as he heard the question, and he finally answered in an impassive tone with something unreadable in his eyes. “Me? I live here.”

He had been trapped in this place alone for too long, with no living thing to accompany him.

“It’s not true.” Midori frowned, she had never heard of anyone living in the northern wing before, and judging from what she could see in the entire greenhouse, there was nothing like a living quarter for any residence use. “This is my father’s house and no one shall live in here without his permission.”

“Your father?” the man raised an eyebrow as realization slowly began to surface in his mind. So he was now face to face with Takashima’s precious daughter……

He only shot his head and his serious expression was replaced by a playful smirk he answered the girl’s question. “Then you have no idea of the things your dear father had kept away from you, little miss.”

Midori pouted upon hearing the man’s words, though the man did look gorgeous when there was a smile on his face but she did not like the mocking way the stranger smiling down at her and the way he mentioned about her father, she also disliked how he seemed to avoid answering her question direction. But before she could say anything else, the man held out his palm before her in order to stop the conversation.

“You have been wandering around for long enough, your father would be wondering where you are…” then he bent forward to level his face to the girl’s. “And I know you are not supposed to be wandering in here.”

Midori turned pale upon hearing his last sentence, remembering the fact that she was actually forbade to come anywhere near the northern wing by her father. Father might love her well enough but his wrath could still not possibly be avoided whenever he learned of any disobedience. Having no other choice left Midori murmured a faint “I have to go” under her breath before running down the pathway that heading toward the exit. But she stopped just before she reached to the doors, turning back for one final time. She found that the dark hair stranger was still standing among the plants, gazing at her direction.

“Hey!” Taking a deep breath the young girl called out to the man. “ I will come back again, tomorrow!”

And she meant what she had said; she knew by tomorrow she would find her chances to sneak into the northern wing, back into this hidden paradise of green to see its mysterious resistant again. Why not? She thought to herself, it wasn’t like she had many other things to do or people to hang around with, even Kai chan had been away…

She would do her best to avoid drawing suspicion from her Father or any of the servants. For once in Midori’s life her Father’s words and warning weren’t able to stop her from following her heart’s desire.

Not very far from the sanatorium where Reita was currently working at, a lone figure stalking down a darkened empty nighttime sideway.

If there were anyone else on the road and noticed the young man’s presence, they would have noticed there was something wrong with him. Ruki was wearing a patient’s robe which was only covered by the long coat he had picked up before he sneaked out of his ward. And the expression on his face……was like a person in a trance or like he was sleepwalking; totally devoid of emotion and blank, his steps were eerily unsteady as well. His eyes were only half-opened and seemingly barely focused, but there was one destination in his bewildered mind, the sweet and seductive, fading voice was still calling out to him, in fact even stronger than ever, calling out to lurk him to this one destination. The blond young man, being too deep under the spell couldn’t resist such calling, and he would have to reach there before other people could catch him, he had to be there to find the owner of the voice in his head despite all cost…
