13 Note: since my obsession with Dario Argento’s horror films only seems to grow, so I decided that the mansion of Mr. Takashima, Uruha’s grandfather, could well be looking like this…XD

Tora was still gasping for air after he finally pushed himself away from the unconscious man, Kai was there to straighten him so he wouldn’t fall on the floor. The lawyer noticed the younger man’s body was shaking and he felt cold from the touch, as if the brunette had just been pulled out of a large freezer.
“Are you okay, Tora san?” Kai asked in concern as he helped the black hair young man to sit on the chair nearby.
The youth only shook his head tiredly, the lawyer found a glass on the desk and poured warm water into it before handing the glass to Tora’s hands. The younger one murmured a barely audible thank to Kai, nursing the warm glass of water in his palms before sipping the liquid slowly, letting the warmth seeped down his cold body.
Kai waited till the brunette could speak again, guilt flashing through his heart as he saw the boy’s hands trembling, knowing that he had just forced Tora into using the power he distasted so much; this kind of psychic power seemed to run in the bloodline of Amano family. It was the reason why the late Mr. Takashima befriended the family in the first place. The story about the friendship of the two families was formed went very much similar to the following:
The first Amano who made it into the upper class society was Tora’s late grandmother, who gained her reputation of being a successful fortunate teller in her youth, and then she met Mr. Takashima when as the man was about to have his first major breakthrough on his business, she presented her prediction to the business man and when her prediction was proofed correct, Mr. Takashima was more than willing to return her favor.
In fact it wasn’t so uncommon in Japanese society for well-known, successful men in power to secretly hire a trusted fortunate tellers or psychic under the title of “special adviser”, even it might be viewed as stupid superstition to outsiders. Tora’s grandmother had became Mr. Takashima trusted “special adviser”, the advices she offered had always proofed helpful to the businessman through the years. Since then the offspring of the Amano family were more or less under Mr. Takashima’s care when they started their own businesses. After Tora’s grandmother, there was no known foreseer in the family any longer, but still some members of Amano family showed sign of having special gifts, Tora was one of those members whose inherited the gifts that passed down by his grandmother. Tora’s power allowed him to read people’s mind if he chose to but this special gift came with a price, making the brunette vulnerable to the negative emotions of other people. Beside this, being able to hear what was inside other people’s minds and heard their hidden private thoughts when he let his guard down proofed to be hurtful for the boy, making him mistrustful toward the people around him; for he never knew what cruelty was hidden beneath their smiling faces.
Saga was the first person who managed to break the wall Tora had built to protect himself, helping him to see there was goodness in people’s hearts beside their wickedness. Tora adored Saga with all his heart and took it up to himself to protect the sweet, soft-hearted boy in anyway he could……but then, all that was changed not long after Kai introduced them to Uruha, the fragile heir of the Takashima family……
Kai was jolted back to reality as he heard Tora spoke all of a sudden, in a dry tone.
“I saw him, I saw him through this man’s eyes.” The brunette spoke on. ”Uruha…he was in that park where they found your assistant in a coma. Uruha should be somewhere nearby this park.”
Kai nodded slowly, though what Tora was saying matter of factly hardly came as a surprise, somehow he had guessed the same but couldn’t be so sure before Tora uttered his finding.
“What more had you seen?”
“I saw a name,” finally the boy raised his head to look up right at Kai. “Shiroyama Aoi, does this name means anything to you?”
“No.”
“Then check this person out whoever he is! I’d done all I could and now, is your turn.”
After that there was nothing more to say, Kai waved to one of his subordinates and he quietly gave orders to the man by the door. Tora was left eying the unconscious Ruki alone in the ward. There was something he also saw in the blodne’s thoughts but he didn’t tell Kai about it immediately, it was some new finding that he still needed to carefully ruminate on with before he could voice them out. After Kai’s subordinate left and the lawyer returning to the room, Tora stood up to exit from the ward, but when he walked passed Kai he said to the older man. “Be careful, someone other than us is also looking for Uruha.”
The lawyer was more than shocked to hear this remark. “Wh-Who?”
“I sensed someone in Ruki’s mind.” Tora explained but it was hardly enough to make Kai understand. At first the lawyer was confused by his strange choice of words. What did he mean by saying “someone in Ruki’s mind”?
The youth stopped and turned himself back to the older man and told him. “I’m quite sure your assistant was controlled by someone, who’s also searching for Uruha. Whoever it was or whichever his or her reason to be, we couldn’t ignore such intention.”
Tora didn’t tell Kai that he sensed there was a strange, hideous presence that dominated Ruki’s thought as he searched through the latter’s pieces of memories; one thing was certain, Ruki’s mind was plagued of the same presence, this phantasmal presence whispered softly into Ruki’s mind, clouding his thought like icy poison; enslaving the assistant while blocking his loyalty to Kai or anyone else away from his mind.
“Controlled? How---” the lawyer seemed still at loss, but he also felt like his unanswered doubts had came clear, somehow after hearing Tora’s strange explanation it was easier to understand Ruki’s actions…
Finally he turned back to Kai. “Someone has controlled Ruki, I’m sure that is the reason why he betrayed you. It must be someone who is more powerful than me, a lot more powerful”
Tora even doubted whether this manipulator was human or not… what he had felt through Ruki didn’t sense like a human at all…
The word “betray” made Kai shifted uneasily, to think of his trusted assistant betraying him was like a back-stab, to think of Ruki as a tailor…Ruki had betrayed him? How could this happen? Damn he was the one who rescued Saga and Uruha out of that forbidden place back in this nightmarish day, when everything turned upside-down.
Tora eyed the lawyer struggling with himself, he almost felt pity toward the older man but he quickly reminded himself of the visions he had just seen in the unconscious blonde’s thoughts. If what he had seen was real then it would mean Kai had been keeping secrets from him even after the Saga incident took place. Kai knew something important and it was connected to Uruha, even to the Takashima family, but he kept it away from Tora and also from the rest of the world.
And it hurt to suspect Kai, whom he once trusted so much. The boy sighed to himself, he really found no pleasure in prying into people’s minds and their dark secrets and he didn’t want to get into all these troubles just to play the role of the Great Detective. All he wanted to do was to stop whatever misfortune from befalling to anyone, and also to save Saga, but right now it seemed he had no other choice; whatever Kai was hiding, he would need to uncover.
