Vet called this am. Told me that the antibiotics probably lowered the seizure threshold. Sophie may have some benign neurological problem which in normal circs wouldn't be treated. (This reminded me of a lady I see with Motor Neuron disease, she can't have certain antibiotics as they can cause a crisis.) He's decided to hold off all meds til the ( Read more... )

Woke about 3 am to find Sophie in a grand mal seizure. It lasted what seemed forever, but probably 3 minutes. I called the vet emergency line, not much help. She was in the recovery stage for 10 minutes or so, then started to stagger around the room. Very distressing. Neighbor's mum just called. They are coming from Prince Edward Island - a two to three day drive - to stay. They use my upper driveway to park their motor home on. She figured out how to defeat the doggie pill pockets. I tried to defeat her licking the pill out by crushing the pill and putting the powder in the pocket - topped with dog food gravy. She just ignored it. Now, I'm down an expensive pill - $7.50 plus the $11 for the pill pockets. The ick factor of shoving a pill down a struggling dog's throat is ( Read more... )

Good thing I asked for a sample of the things to trick dogs into taking pills. Sophie liked it, but the pill fell out. As the pills are $8 each, it rescued it and shoved it down her throat. She's on two antibiotics, thankfully one is only once a day. Urine specimen grew something - now waiting for further tests. Still managing to step in a puddle ( Read more... )
