Yesterday, after the debacle that was our concert last weekend, Z introduced us to music for our next concert, and he chose to start us off with "The Heavens are Telling" by Haydn.  Which is Baroque and very straightforward, with only a little chromaticism near the end, and we sightread it with only a few mistakes, and it was wonderful.  Refreshing ( Read more... )

Most people have never heard the whole of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.  I've got it on CD, which has been very useful as we've practiced it.  There are four movements, and the famous "Ode to Joy" doesn't show up until about twenty minutes from the end.  (The whole symphony is around an hour and twenty.)
