Y'know, the trouble with working on music that's only just been written is that it is badly in need of an editor.
Quick question to any of you who read music: when switching back and forth between duple and triple meter, is it more confusing to read a triple meter (6/8, 12/8, etc) with duplet markings, or a duple meter (2/4, 4/4) with triplet markings? I prefer the second one. Most of the "Gloria" is written in the first one. Arrgh.
It occured to me that as an American of German descent, I'm far more at home with Handel and gospel than with an Irish reel.
Also, I discovered that how you pronounce "Appalachia" depends on where you're from. I've always heard it as "ap-pel-AY-shya", including from my mother, who is from Pennsylvania. But if you're from the South, it is apparently "ap-pel-ATCH-ya". (Good thing I looked it up before arguing with the director.)
(Of course, where Mom's from, they prefer "Allegheny" anyway. "Appalachia" is hillbillies in West Virginia.)
Y'know, North America is full of gorgeous names...
