Yesterday me and some friends attended the event Kjæmpestaden in Arendal, and I dare say this years event was as fun as last year. We probably attended less events, but it was largely compensated for by the visit of the sailship Götheborg. I was joined by sneprinsesse, plasmaregn, solbirger and Sofie, and behold! we all attended in Regency outfits! 't was fun ( Read more... )

My first costume event this year is closing in, hooray!

Kjæmpestaden ( http://kjempestaden.no/ ) is taking place this weekend. I will be joined by sneprinsesse and co this year as well, all of us in costumes naturally. I had lots of fun last year, so I'm looking forward to this!

A local Regency group had a cosy meeting yesterday, in the home of sneprinsesse and mate. It was nice to meet people with similar interests. And of course, everyone "attacked" the bookshelf of named sneprinsesse in hunt for costume goodies....

I stumbled across a book on sale yesterday. It's called Femme fashion, is in both German and English, and focuses on female fashion from ca. 1780-2004. The biggest chunk of the book is about newer fashion, but there are some interesting articles and photos of pre-1900 outfits there as well. I've skipped a few photos, but this is basically it:

I know "Regency" is the common English expression for the high-waisted, narrow fashion in the early 19.th century. But my art book separates the period into three categories:

"Directoire": Named after the directory which had executive powes in France in the late 1790's.
"Empire": Referring to France under Napoleon, app. 1800-1815

Finally some decent pictures of the Regency dress! It is finished, apart from the raw seams on the left shoulder, some details on the right sleeve plus the small gap in the back.
