Smocking!
I was making the Simplicity pirate shirt for my brother and decided to experiment with smocking. The pattern calls for gathers as the neck, shoulder, and wrist, so I replaced the shoulder gathers with a little bit of smocking.

It's been a busy weekend. I didn't get done nearly as much as I wanted, but I did manage to get in some gardening. I went and bought a few petunias to fill in the side bed, along with herbs and some small trellis things to hold up the flowering vine. We got a lot of hail this morning! It wasn't large, but it kept going for an unusually long time. The street and sidewalk were all white with ice and the grass was nearly covered ( Read more... ) -
Jacket!
I finally* finished this thing early last week. What took so long was me dragging my heels on the hemming and cuffs. I didn't have a plan for how to do either when I set out (the hemming would be different than on the original because of the lining and my lack of a serger to overlock raw edges, and the application of the cuffs wasn't entirely ( Read more... ) -
Snaps! Sewing! Stuff!
I had to go across town to Handcock's, but I found the right setting tool for the snaps. I actually had to make two trips, since I didn't realize they closed as early as 6 on Saturdays so I had to go back again today. I was glad I did, as they had some jewelry findings I'd been trying to find for a while, a cotton fat quarter in so-very-nearly-it- ( Read more... ) -

The heat didn't really come back, actually, and it was really nice this week with pleasantly chilly evenings. It might be returning this weekend, though, so it's a bad thing that I broke my box fan a while back. It fell backward out of a window onto the kitchen floor, even though I'd put in the little feet thingies that help it not fall backward. ( Read more... ) -
