It's been a busy weekend. I didn't get done nearly as much as I wanted, but I did manage to get in some gardening. I went and bought a few petunias to fill in the side bed, along with herbs and some small trellis things to hold up the flowering vine. I turned over the bed around in back and got the tomatoes and peppers I'd grown from seed in, with cages for the tomatoes. I stuck the trellises in the ground along the rock wall and wired the tangled mass of vine to them. The flowers on this vine are gorgeous, but my plan to have them cover the rock wall won't come to pass, as this is the kind of vine that curls around things rather than sticking to them. Then I finished weeding the side bed and planted the petunias. I made a pot of petunias for the front steps and then planted the herb containers. Not bad for one trip to the garden store and only about an hour's work at home.

There's a a third wave of tulips blooming, which is nice because the irises just past their peak. I was hoping I'd get a graduated blooming pattern like that. Also, the columbine is finally blooming. Last year it sprouted all over but then just sat there.

I'm happier with the garden in general now compared to how I felt a few weeks ago. True, it's not very showy or well-established, but it was looking a lot better even before I added the petunias, with things other than the bulbs coming into bloom and the creeping plants starting to spread a bit more.

Meanwhile, certain costuming plans temporarily got derailed (although it was by necessity, and a good thing to as my schedule for the near future just got a lot busier) and then the project I decided to do instead is taking a little longer than I expected. Still, the other other project I have going on at the same time is shaping up to be a pretty stress-free sewing experience - to the point that I decided to make it more complicated by experimenting with smocking.
