This is from a Hindu temple we went to called Halebid in Karnataka South India. Its a small carving on the outside. Behind the chariot is a labyrinth.

On our A-List for this part of Karnataka were the Hoysala temples at Belur and Halebid. These are pictures of the Chennakesava Temple at Belur. Probably going to do this in a few parts because the place is too amazing for just one post (well at least for me it is).

I just wanted to share these photos from Ajanta because they came out so cool. They are from one of the last caves (#26). There was actually artificial lighting installed in this cave but the light was really low, and no flash was allowed. Flash would have been to harsh anyway. So the caves at Ajanta. For almost 1000 years they were "lost" in an isolated gorge in the arid dry countryside of Western India. Then in 1819 a British officer on a tiger hunt walked over the gorge ridge and "re-discovered" them. Could you imagine that parties surprise?

@ Kalinjar fort in the middle of Madhya Pradesh, the rock cut figure of the 18 armed Kal Bhairav, one of the many incarnations of Shiva. Its over 1000 years old and stands over 26 feet high cut into the sheer cliff.
