A wall of Nagas at Belur, Karnataka. I'm not afraid of god, and I'm not afraid to take her photo. I adore this wall, in the first meaning of this word.

So soon I'm going to be posting A LOT of photos from my trips to a bunch of South Indian temples. There are going to be a lot of pictures of God(s)(esses)...
I have to say, I am so not into, what the vogue words these days we call "the other". I so avoid those type of photos. We know the ones, quant photos of the "exotic natives". (I've been exoticized on a personal level, from time to time, so I think I'm sensitive to that? I hope I am.) Well, in the same chain of disclaimer, I feel the same way about God. I don't want to otherize their image either. I don't know if I've done too well though.
Then sometimes there is no way around it... who am I fooling? In South India I AM the other! And being there in that place, there is no other way to record the photo. (I came away, seeing so much and feeling I knew so much less than before I got there...) Anyway, whatever. Let me just say, I didn't take photos of MANY gods, because it was not appropriate. Sometimes god is doing things he just doesn't want you to be taking a photo of. Which was actually most of the time. God is very busy in South India, and that's a fact.
