More Belur temple pics..

This particular temple is most famous for the carvings of dancers that are displayed all around the exterior. They were all carved from single blocks of stone with posts on their top and bottom and set into holes notched in the top of the column, and bracketed in place. To me its a strange and odd decision on the part of the building designers (I'm not making an judgments, only a personal observation here. The guys who built this place had concepts way over My head, and I am sure they had reasons to do it this way.) There are 42 of these dancers, or mandikinis, and they are set at odd angles, conforming to the eaves of the temple roof, as opposed to the building conforming to them.

So if ya want, check it out.

(sorry if you have a slow connection, I've put a bunch of pics under the cut)

Did I say that the whole outside of the temple is completely covered in carvings? Well it is!

This the outside with some windows, really nice windows.
