The mammogram went well and was slightly less uncomfortable than previous years, mainly because I'm carrying less weight around my middle so the extra flab wasn't getting in the way and pinched by accident. Friday I am going to the Cross Cancer Institute for blood work and to see my oncologist. It has to do with the next possible phase of treatment. Phase 1 was surgery, phase 2 - chemo, phase 3 - radiation, phase 4 - tamoxifen and possibly phase 5 - arimidex ( Read more... )

Today is my bi-annual check-up at the Cross Cancer Institute. It's also mammogram day. *sigh* I'm not worried, but these things aren't fun and there is alway the possibility that it will find something I'm not able to feel.

Yesterday I noticed huge purple bruises on both of my legs. Just below the knees. These bruises are fist size and I have no idea how I got them. I don't remember falling back on to anything or anything hitting my legs. They are a bit tender which is to be expected given that they are bruises. I was a bit concerned though. Well I saw my oncologist today. He repeated what my GP had told me. My ovaries are still producing some estrogen so I'm not officially in menopause. (despite the fact that I haven't had a period in over two years) So I will stay on tamoxifen; probably for 5 years and then be put on Letrozole; also know as Femara for another five years. Today I went for a CT Scan at the Cross Cancer Institute. I don't know which of the many scans I had it confused with but it wasn't noisy. In fact the scan was over practically before I realized it had started. I tolerated the contrast liquid well and the RN who inserted the needle for the contrast IV was excellent getting the vein on the first try ( Read more... )

Today I was informed when I will be seen at the Cross Cancer Institute. December 15th. First an information session and then meeting with the oncologist. I will find out just what the plan of attack is going to be. On the 13th I have to go for a bone scan and an abdominal ultra sound, so next week will be another hectic one ( Read more... )

Today was a good day. I participated in a study at the Cross Cancer Institute. It wont help me know, but hopefully it will help doctors treat breast cancer patients more effectively.
