Rolling Stone has some good picks on its "100 Best Albums of the Nineties," though of course there are some artists and genres on it I don't listen to. I'm curious if anyone on my f'list has opinions on the recent 3-CD Disintegration Deluxe Edition by the Cure. While I like the original, it isn't an album that I listen to much these days, being more partial to certain selections from Pornography, The Top, The Head on the Door, and Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me. When Johnette Napolitano is firing on all cylinders, she's great. But when she's bad and/or self-indulgent... lordy. Unfortunately, Scarred is an album mostly full of the second category. Lyrically, this album can mostly be summed up by "You're awesome, and I suck." Her voice sounds seriously distressed here, which makes the songs about being old, ( Read more... )

The thing about life and memories is that little things link to each other in occasionally unexpected ways. A line of dialogue that came to me this morning brought me back to a song on the Pump Up the Volume soundtrack which made me think of the movie which made me think of the ways both brought me to goth.

A Life Less Lived: The Gothic Box is a 3 CD/1 DVD compilation set of gothic music cutely laced into a leatherette "corset," though that makes it somewhat hard to file with your other stuff.
