A Life Less Lived: The Gothic Box is a 3 CD/1 DVD compilation set of gothic music cutely laced into a leatherette "corset," though that makes it somewhat hard to file with your other stuff. For whatever reason, the CD/DVD/companion book folder itself has a stylized octopus drawn in red upon its black background, so Goth approves of tentacle porn ( Read more... )

Now there's a bunch of bands I haven't heard in a long time.

"Charlotte Sometimes" is my favorite Cure song. I got my best-friend-in-law hooked on it too. He was into hair metal when I was listening to this stuff and he's just now catching up. I'm getting to dig out my old albums to play for him.

It's also been fun to have him tell me about some great song he found on Rhapsody that I have on an album so old that it's on a cassette tape.

"Charlotte Sometimes" is pretty cool. I don't know why Suz never let me hear it back then. She got me into The Cure by putting Disintegration on an endless loop one night while I was trying to sleepover at her house. You end up either crazy or a fan after that one.

There's so much stuff I only have on cassette. It would be nice to have Cocteau Twins' "Persephone" and Virgin Prunes' "Baby Turns Blue" on CD, for instance.

I think I'm on my third copy of Disintegration. My original cassette tape wore out. My second copy disappeared when I had some work done on my car. I now keep the CD in my car to use as my bad weather driving music. I made it safely through 3 states in a blizzard listening to that album on repeat.

Disintegration and Workbook by Bob Mould are my favorite albums ever.

I once did five hours of driving in a blizzard with almost zero visibility through eight inches of snow on a particularly mountainous and treacherous part of I-80 while listening to Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me.
