Roy happened to be doing his rounds at the moment himself, as a boatswain was wont to do--

Although, what he would give for a break. Walking around felt a little useless, given the fact that they were on the ground. Still, officers WERE watching, and at least LOOKING like one was busy was good for the reputation.

And it didn't take long for Edgeworth to run into a familiar face - almost literally, in fact. He stopped in his tracks, and for a brief moment his eyes widened in surprise. Was that Hijikata? Hmph, it was strange to see him without his trademark cigarette. Or that immature pout of his.

Still, as unpleasant as their last encounter was, it was only a matter of time before they met again. Edgeworth cleared his throat, and greeted him with a cold stare.

"Major."

"Commander Edgeworth."

Roy immediately straightened up and saluted the man. Cold tone, huh... had he been mistaken for Hijikata again? Figured.

Edgeworth's eyes widened and he nearly swallowed his tongue in surprise. Whoever this was, it most certainly wasn't Hijikata. For one thing, he had actual manners.

Other details weren't right, either. The voice was off, and the hair was different; it was neater, and less disheveled. Edgeworth continued to briefly look over the man for other differences, and paused when he saw the white gloves on his hands.

He ignored the warmth of embarrassment that rose to his skin, and cleared his throat, now composed. "You wished to speak to me, Mustang?"

It had to have been Mustang. No other man could have fit this description; he knew he and Hijikata looked similar, but he didn't expect ...this strong of a resemblance.

Freaked out over being sick as he was, there were still things he needed to do as a navigator, and he had every intention of doing his work before anyone could find fault in it. The quartermasters had seen his charts already, and presented no revisions before they sent it off to be approved by the first mate, but he wanted to make sure.

So there he was in the navigation room, pouring over his charts and nursing a mild headache.

Before they could leave, he needed to doublecheck the routes. While Edgeworth wasn't normally worried about the navigators' abilities, Itou's latest illness left him with some concerns.

All the more reason to check up on him. Edgeworth strode into the room, his back straight and his attention on the other man on the room.

"Lieutenant Commander," he greeted. "What do you have for us?"

Itou looked up at the newcomer, slightly startled to find the first mate there of all people, but otherwise unfazed.

"Commander Edgeworth," he greeted carefully, straightening up from where he had been examining a chart. "I was just double-checking the charts I submitted recently. Everything's in order, though I'm still considering between these two points," he gestured. "How may I help you?"

Edgeworth walked closer to get a better look, and said briskly, "I just wished to know how your work was coming along."

He stood next to Itou and stooped over to peer at the two points. His eyes narrowed, and he asked, "What issues are you having with this part of the course?"

let's have our shenanigans again godandmyright June 12 2009, 07:30:34 UTC
Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn.

Arthur strode back up onto the Victoria II, practically livid. That boy, Peter... His brother... He had run off. Again. Apparently before the bombings. No matter how many times they tried to make him stay at home, neither Arthur nor his parents could stop him. So now, no one knew where he was. And that was just another thing to add to Arthur's growing plate of bad news.

He hadn't even been working on the Victoria II for very long, and he already wanted a vacation from everything.

There was yet another familiar face - Arthur Kirkland, one of their newer strategists. Edgeworth hadn't talked to him in some time, but he had hoped to remedy that.

...only he seemed to be in a foul mood. How bothersome.

"Lieutenant?" His voice was firm, and there was a small frown on his face. "Is something the matter?"

in the icon? It was a bomb from Germany, or something godandmyright June 15 2009, 04:30:36 UTC
Huh? Oh! After a moment, Arthur looked up quickly. He had barely paid any attention to where he was walking. A few steps more, and he might have collided with the first mate. That would have been stupid.

"Just family troubles, sir," he said, standing up straight. "Nothing huge."

No wonder he's so irritated. edge_of_honor June 15 2009, 07:55:14 UTC
Family troubles? A small knot tied in Edgeworth's stomach; while he had no special concern for Kirkland (the man was perfectly capable of taking care of himself), current events put that simple statement in a much darker context.

He tilted his head to the side, and asked, "They weren't affected by the incident, were they?"

Susan had, lately, been quite absorbed in reading the small stack of books she had picked up at their last port of call--with the help of a new acquaintance, of course. But even one who devoured books needed the refreshment of a pot of tea, every once in a while. Which was what had Susan out of her room and walking with purpose towards the kitchen.

Where hopefully she would run into neither 'Dee' nor that strange new cook. That would be too much.

Edgeworth was on his way to the kitchen, but for a far different reason. After a series events (mostly Reynolds and Bonnefoy acting like...well, Reynolds and Bonnefoy), he decided that something had to be done. Perhaps a surprise inspection was in order...

Along the way, though, he found something different: a glimpse of the teacher, the duchess Susan. In a way, it was rather fortunate; there were some things he needed to discuss with her as well. He cleared his throat and approached her.

"Excuse me? Ms. Sto-Helit?"

The greeting roused her from her thoughts, and she turned her step smoothly towards the first mate. "Commander Edgeworth," she responded pleasantly, pausing in her stride. "What can I do for you?"

"I was hoping that I could talk to you about your lessons," he replied. "Do you have some time to spare?"

Millie was wandering around the ship, Meg in a baby carrier on her back. She had just come from the Headquarters, and had a brand new list of claims to cover. Most of them were in the town the races would be held in, so it fit.

"You know, Meg, I think the Chief is giving me work that keeps me on the Victoria II for some reason," she mused.

Ah, and there was the insurance woman. To be frank, Edgeworth was surprised she managed to stay on board for so long. However, he couldn't complain too much; she had been quite polite and helpful during her stay on board. In some ways, she was almost better than the crew.

Besides, he did owe her his gratitude, at the very least. He nodded to her as they crossed paths, and stopped near her.

"Good afternoon, Ms. Thompson. I trust everything is going well for you?"

"Oh, yes. Poor Miss Dee looked absolutely terrified when I went to the kitchen, though," Millie replied. "Did you scare her or something?"

"I did?"

He did? Good. That was the least she deserved.

"I'll work everything out with her later," he said calmly. "Trust me. There's nothing for you to worry about."
