let's have our shenanigans again godandmyright June 12 2009, 07:30:34 UTC
Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn.

Arthur strode back up onto the Victoria II, practically livid. That boy, Peter... His brother... He had run off. Again. Apparently before the bombings. No matter how many times they tried to make him stay at home, neither Arthur nor his parents could stop him. So now, no one knew where he was. And that was just another thing to add to Arthur's growing plate of bad news.

He hadn't even been working on the Victoria II for very long, and he already wanted a vacation from everything.

Yes, let's-...wait is that a unicorn horn on his head? edge_of_honor June 15 2009, 04:13:44 UTC
There was yet another familiar face - Arthur Kirkland, one of their newer strategists. Edgeworth hadn't talked to him in some time, but he had hoped to remedy that.

...only he seemed to be in a foul mood. How bothersome.

"Lieutenant?" His voice was firm, and there was a small frown on his face. "Is something the matter?"

in the icon? It was a bomb from Germany, or something godandmyright June 15 2009, 04:30:36 UTC
Huh? Oh! After a moment, Arthur looked up quickly. He had barely paid any attention to where he was walking. A few steps more, and he might have collided with the first mate. That would have been stupid.

"Just family troubles, sir," he said, standing up straight. "Nothing huge."

No wonder he's so irritated. edge_of_honor June 15 2009, 07:55:14 UTC
Family troubles? A small knot tied in Edgeworth's stomach; while he had no special concern for Kirkland (the man was perfectly capable of taking care of himself), current events put that simple statement in a much darker context.

He tilted his head to the side, and asked, "They weren't affected by the incident, were they?"

Ah. Yeah. Major headache godandmyright June 16 2009, 12:44:38 UTC
"The incident?" Arthur blinked. Then, after a moment of recognition, he held up his hands. "Oh, no! It's not that. Mum and dad are perfectly fine." It was nice to see Edgeworth again. The guy must have been busy with everything going on. "My little brother ran away from home." Again. "Before the bombings happened. No one knows where he is."

Well, it certainly wasn't as bad as he feared, but it certainly wasn't good. While Edgeworth suspected that it was nothing more than a fit of childish rebellion, the fact of the matter was that it left his strategist distracted. That simply wouldn't do.

Edgeworth frowned, and asked, "Has he done this before?"

Even if it was childish rebellion, Peter was still only 13 years old. That was much to young to go around attempting recognition. Arthur combed his fingers through his hair, trying to think about where his kid brother might have run off to.

"Yes."

"And has any harm ever come to him?"

"No," replied Arthur. "But it should stop. He tried to sell himself once! He just won't quit."

He tried to sell himself? What in the world was going through that boy's head?! Edgeworth's eyes widened in surprise, before he cleared his throat and glanced to the side.

"That's...rather unorthodox," he admitted. "Is he desperate for travel, or is it something else?"

the answer is: arthur's family is messed up godandmyright June 16 2009, 19:46:31 UTC
"I don't think it's that..." But Arthur didn't know. The way Peter talked, he seemed like he wanted much more out of life. "All I know is that he makes his parents worry. He makes me worry." His brothers thought it was fun to give him heart attacks.

I can imagine edge_of_honor June 17 2009, 02:49:26 UTC
"That's certainly understandable," he replied, "However, worry won't bring him back. Now, how long ago did he disappear?"

"Sometime before the bombings, I guess," Arthur said. He knew it would do no good to worry. This was not the first time he'd dealt with it. But it frustrated him to no end that people were always running away from him. One day, he just wasn't going to care anymore.

So he hoped.

"And where does this boy usually go when he runs off?"

"Everywhere. We've found him in all sorts of places."

Wonderful, so there was no real pattern to his mischief. That would have just been too convenient. Well, there was nothing more that Edgeworth could do, and questioning Kirkland would just rub salt in the wound. He paused for a moment, at a loss as to what to say.

"I'm sure he'll be back in due time," he said quickly. (He wasn't sure at all, in fact, considering current events, but mentioning it out loud seemed troublesome.)

"Just trust in the authorities. They'll be able to keep a better eye out for him than y- than any one person can."
