Power went out on Saturday night and was restored Monday night, Oct. 31.  I spent Saturday night under a pile of blankets and slept at my parents' house on Sunday night.  Also snuck in two trips (TWO, ahahaha!  Two trips!) to visit friends in coastal Big Cities for Halloween.  The countryside near here is trashed, far more so than it was when Irene ( Read more... )

The restaurant and artisan brewery in town is hiring, and they confirmed today: I'm to work as a hostess and occasional kitchen runner, starting Friday.  All right!  "Kitchen runner" means a mere peon who fetches food from, well, the kitchen.  "Hostess" is the equivalent of a greeter, saying hi, seating people and settling their bills at the end of ( Read more... )

Today and tomorrow I'm moving from a private-room-and-shared-house near the university to another such setup half an hour closer to my job.  Possibly keeping up a running commentary will make it easier.  Then again, it may be a useful way to procrastinate.  Off we go!

That's more like it!  I went to see two cars this afternoon, and they were both very good.  The first was by far the nicest I've seen yet.  I phoned the owner back just now and accepted his price, which I'd found out from BlueBook was extremely reasonable.  It's a deal.  On Saturday, I will take it to the mechanic's to get it checked out.  If they ( Read more... )
