Clinic, Monday

The baby was still in NICU and likely would be for a few more weeks. Piper was going to be there everyday until he was allowed to go home.

He was still nameless at the moment. She was going to have to do something about that soon.

Meg didn't make it to the clinic until early evening, and she paused at the door, looking through the window at Piper and then her eyes fell to the tiny baby in the incubator. It was her fault he was there.

Piper looked over at Meg and went outside of the NICU to greet her. "Meg? You can go in and see him if you want."

"Hey, Piper," she replied quietly. "I... don't want to bother him. Is this a bad time?"

"No, it's not at all," Piper assured her. "And I promise you won't be bothering him."

Mary had quite a bit of free time on her hands lately, and once she got started crocheting, it was hard to stop. So she stopped by the clinic to drop off a few baby items.

"As far as I can tell, no one's thrown you a baby shower yet, so I hope these tide you over," she said with a gentle smile.

Piper managed a small, grateful smile. "Oh, you didn't have to do that. But I appreciate it anyway. These are adorable."

"Aren't they? I went looking for a pattern to make a simple baby hat and found tons of cute stuff to make," said Mary, smiling. "Besides, every preemie needs a cute little hat to keep his sweet little head warm."

"Definitely," Piper said, imagining the cute hats on his head. "I'm sure he will love them. Thanks, Mary."

Of course Sean was there. If Piper was going to be there every day, then Sean was going to be checking in on her every day.

"Hey," he greeted as he walked in. "How's the tiniest Halliwell doing today?"

"He has a name now," Piper said, smiling.

"Aww, yay." Sean grinned as he sat down in the chair from yesterday. "What is it?"

"Matthew," Piper said, still liking the way that sounded.

As soon as Patty had gotten home -- even though it wasn't until late in the evening -- and caught up on the news, she beelined for the clinic.

"Why didn't you call me?" she flailed at her daughter as she walked into the room.

"Mom," Piper said, so glad to see her. "I'm sorry. I knew you were on the trip. I didn't want you to be worrying the whole time..."

"Ridiculous," Patty said, swooping in to hug Piper. "I still say you should've called me."

Piper clung to her. She hadn't realized until now just how much she needed her. "I'm glad you're here now."
