Clinic, Monday

The baby was still in NICU and likely would be for a few more weeks. Piper was going to be there everyday until he was allowed to go home.

He was still nameless at the moment. She was going to have to do something about that soon.

Meg didn't make it to the clinic until early evening, and she paused at the door, looking through the window at Piper and then her eyes fell to the tiny baby in the incubator. It was her fault he was there.

Piper looked over at Meg and went outside of the NICU to greet her. "Meg? You can go in and see him if you want."

"Hey, Piper," she replied quietly. "I... don't want to bother him. Is this a bad time?"

"No, it's not at all," Piper assured her. "And I promise you won't be bothering him."

She gave her a small smile and feeling a bit awkward, entered the room. "How are you doing?" she asked her, keeping her voice low.

"I'm doing okay." It was sort of the truth. She had gotten some sleep, at least. She was more concerned about Meg right now. "How are you feeling, Meg?"

She could probably guess.

Piper looked tired, worried. Meg's heart went out to her. Stepping over to the incubator, she looked down at the sleeping baby. "I'm okay. Will be," she said softly. "I worry more for Sam. And for him." It was her fault the baby was there, having to stay. "I'm so sorry, Piper. I shouldn't have been able to carry him to term."

"Meg, this was not your fault," Piper gently told her.

"I feel responsible," she told her. "What does the doctor say?"

"You're not," Piper assured, making it clear to Meg that she did not blame her for any of this. She couldn't even imagine the amount of stress Meg had to deal with.

To answer her question, she added, "He's gonna be okay. He'll have to be here for a few weeks while he gets stronger, but he's gonna be fine. I promise."

Meg swiped at a tear. She wasn't going to cry, she promised herself. "That's good. I was worried about him. He's so beautiful, Piper." She studied him, and was thinking he favored Sam. "Have you named him yet?" she asked, looking over at her now.

"Yeah, he is," Piper smiled, thinking he favored a bit of both Sam and Meg. "Haven't named him yet, no. I should probably do that."

She looked at Meg. "I was thinking Matthew. What do you think?"

She felt Meg's approval was important before she made any decisions.

She smiled at Piper. It made her feel good that she asked her opinion. "I like Matthew. It's a nice name, Piper."

"It's close to Paige's last name, and he already has the Halliwell name, so why not combine them." It made sense to Piper, at least.

"That's a great idea, Piper. Have you chosen a middle name?" she asked. "And do you need anything? I... hope you don't mind, but I picked up a few things for him during my pregnancy. Blankets to booties. But if you'd rather not accept them, I would completely understand."

"Meg, whatever you get him, I will always accept" Piper assured her, grinning. "You can spoil him as much as you want."

She looked over at Matthew, thinking that name was perfect. But it wasn't his full name. Not quite. "I haven't picked a middle name, yet."
